8. the ospar commission for the protection of the marine environment of the north-east atlantic has identified a number of sensitive habitats as follows: (a) sea pens and burrowing megafauna communities, which consist of plains of fine mud, at water depths ranging from 15 to 200 m or more; (b) reefs (recorded in depths from 10 to 50 m or more), such as those that contain tube-building polychaetes (sabellaria spinulosa), which can form dense communities on mixed substrata and on rocky habitats; (c) oyster (ostrea edulis) beds on shallow, mostly sheltered sediments (typically up to 10 m depth, but occasionally down to 30 m), which consist of clumps of dead shells and oysters that can support large numbers of ascidians, large taxa including polychaetes, suspension-feeding polychaetes and a turf of seaweeds.3
