SABIC LAUNCHES EYE CARE CAMPAIGN TO BENEFIT 10,000 LESS PRIVILEGED SCHOOL CHILDREN WITH SUPPORT FROM GURGAON DISTRICT ADMINISTRATION Gurgaon, India, August 12, 2015 – SABIC, a top ranking global petrochemicals company , and its NGO partner, Arunodaya Charitable Trust, have joined hands to undertake an extensive eye care campaign for screening 10,000 less privileged students of government schools in Gurgaon-National Capital Region (NCR), India. Through its ‘They See, They Learn’ eye care program, SABIC will offer eye check-up of school children in the age group of 6 to 18 years to identify vision-related problems and provide free corrective spectacles to them. SABIC is already providing vision screening and corrective support to nearly 25,000 children through a similar project in Delhi (NCR). Speaking on the occasion, Janardhanan Ramanujalu, Vice President, SABIC South Asia & ANZ, said, ”Through this eye care initiative, we aim to facilitate better learning environment for students as vision related problems in less privileged children often go unnoticed and impact their learning abilities. With our prior experience of providing vision care through eye screening of nearly 25,000 children in Delhi (NCR), we look forward to extending our efforts to another 10,000 children in Gurgaon. We are especially thankful to the Gurgaon Deputy Commissioner’s office for facilitating expeditious approvals for this project and fully supporting this initiative.” T.L. Satyaprakash, IAS Deputy Commissioner, Gurgaon, who graced the occasion, said, “We appreciate SABIC’s initiative towards addressing the vision care issue amongst children from less privileged backgrounds. Vision care is an important aspect of health which directly affects the academic performance of children. Mr. Vinay Pratap Singh, IAS Addl. Deputy Commissioner commented, “We thank SABIC for taking the initiative to support education by addressing eye-care as an important facet of the learning process among children. We hope that many more corporates will come forward to support such initiatives for less privileged schoolchildren.” Dr.Sethi, Arunodaya Deseret Eye Hospital, a unit of Arunodaya Charitable Trust, said, “Vision care is a serious problem in India which often gets neglected due to lack of awareness. We appreciate that SABIC has come forward and taken up this critical issue. We are happy to leverage SABIC’s experience in this area and support the cause of Literacy and Healthcare to economically backward children in schools in Gurgaon.” SABIC’s various other successful CSR activities include the restoration of Lake and sponsorship of a community hall in Hosahalli village near Bengaluru, Blood donation drives, eye care camps, tree plantation drives and school restructuring/restoration etc.

Human interference with our environment is excessive, and the situation is rapidly worsening due to our population growth. Policies must therefore be changed. These policies affect basic economic, technological, and ideological structures. The way to these policy changes is in the “Deep Ecology” ecosophy (110). Deep ecology is a philosophical way of looking at our environmental problems that was founded in 1972 by Norwegian Arne Naess, a former head of the philosophy department at the University of Oslo. Naess’ writings show us what is wrong with the world and give us a blueprint by which we can bring about change. In its most basic form, deep ecology is a necessary wisdom, requiring humans to see themselves as part of the bigger picture. That picture is our sacred relationship with Earth and all beings. Many believe overpopulation, the greenhouse effect, global warming, and loss of habitat are no cause for alarm. Some, in fact, claim media and politicians perpetuate the hysteria regarding our environmental decline because they have something to gain by painting such a bad picture. Countless studies I have read or am personally involved with, however, have convinced me these problems are real and can be resolved if the following are supported: 1. Continued inquiry into the appropriate human roles on our planet. 2. Root cause analysis of unsustainable practices. 3. Reduction of human consumption. 4. Conservation and restoration of ecosystems. 5. A life of committed action for Earth. (Oslo 1973) The solution to our ecosystem mess is through the principles Dr. Naess has developed. These principles begin with a statement that all life, human and nonhuman, has intrinsic value. This means everything about life is valuable, including individuals, cultures, species, habitats, and populations. Another principle states that the diversity of life forms contribute to our appreciation of their value, but these forms also have value in and of themselves. A person with first hand experience, or one who works in the ecological field, is mindful of the live-and-let-live axiom but, unfortunately, most relate this only to humans. Naess makes it another principle that humans have no right to reduce riches, resources, and diversity of life, except to fulfill vital needs. Human interference with the nonhuman world is out of control and getting worse (Drengson). . Therefore, the another principle requires strategies be put in place for the first-world nations to overcome delusions and laziness on these issues The next principle requires a major change in the policies that affect our economic, technologic and ideological norms. Our society's values are geared toward wealth and technological advancement, which result in reckless buying and careless disposal of our mass waste (Burton 2002). We need to appreciate life’s quality instead of what society sets as standards. This is the next principle, but the notion is difficult to characterize since quality of life cannot be quantified. The last principle simply states that if you believe in what deep ecology teaches, then you should do your best to employ those changes. As you can see, the fundamental principles of deep ecology outlined in Arne Naess’ writings demand radical changes in our life. Changes that affect our population growth, hazardous waste, and global warming dilemmas must include birth control, recycling, and yielding sustainable resources for energy and building. Population growth drives or multiplies most of our environmental problems. Between 1900 and 1999, world population quadrupled. Just between 1960 and 1999 it more than doubled, from three billion to over six billion and currently, we are growing more than 80 million people every year (2002 World Population Data Sheet). This growth means more energy and resource needs, more land occupied, and more waste. As population and consumption increase, there are fewer resources available per person. At some point, there are not enough resources to go around, and scarcity occurs. Resource scarcity is the root of many problems. If there are not enough resources to adequately support the population, poverty results. Greater environmental destruction occurs, as people are forced to over-exploit the resource base (Burton 2002). Scarcity leads to discrimination, because when resources are scarce, someone gets less. Girls, women, ethnic or religious minorities, the poor, and the elderly are most often victims of this (Population Reference Bureau 2002). Scarcity also leads to migration, conflict between bands, tribes or nations as they fight to obtain resources. This has been evidenced by the Aztec people’s demise. We should teach the deep ecology philosophy in school when the kids are small. This will ensure that our earth’s future will be in the hands of humans who have appreciation of our world and its inhabitants, living and nonliving. It will teach harmony instead of killing and dominance because deep ecology discards the survival of the fittest concept. (Oslo 1973) In closing, the earth is a living entity that is being snuffed-out by too many people. Selfishness and egocentricity is rampant and these attitudes need to be changed. The deep ecology philosophy, if made available to the world will do this. Just as philosophies taught by Aristotle, Hume, and Kant have open the door to new thinking, so can Naess beliefs.

google translaBenign positional vertigo is the most common type of vertigo. Vertigo is the feeling that you are spinning or that everything is spinning around you. It may occur when you move your head in a certain position. Causes Benign positional vertigo is also called benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV). It is caused by a problem in the inner ear. The inner ear has fluid-filled tubes called semicircular canals. When you move, the fluid moves inside these tubes. The canals are very sensitive to any movement of the fluid. The sensation of the fluid moving in the tube tells your brain the position of your body. This helps you keep your balance. BPPV occurs when a small piece of bone-like calcium breaks free and floats inside the tube. This sends confusing messages to your brain about your body's position. BPPV has no major risk factors. However, your risk for developing BPPV may increase if you have: Family members with BPPV Had a prior head injury (even a slight bump to the head) Had an inner ear infection called labyrinthitis Symptoms BPPV symptoms include: Feeling like you are spinning or moving Feeling like the world is spinning around you Loss of balance Nausea and vomiting Hearing loss Vision problems, such as a feeling that things are jumping or moving The spinning sensation: Is usually triggered by moving your head Often starts suddenly Lasts a few seconds to minutes Certain positions can trigger the spinning feeling: Rolling over in bed Tilting your head up to look at something Exams and Tests To diagnose BPPV, your health care provider may perform a test called the Dix-Hallpike maneuver. Your provider holds your head in a certain position. Then you are asked to lie quickly backward over a table. As you do this, your provider will look for abnormal eye movements and ask if you feel like you are spinning. If the Dix-Hallpike test doesn't show a clear result, you may be asked to do other tests. Your provider will do a physical exam and ask about your medical history. You may have brain and nervous system (neurological) tests to rule out other causes. These may include: EEG Electronystagmography (ENG) Head CT Head MRI Hearing test Magnetic resonance angiography of the head Warming and cooling the inner ear with water or air to test eye movements. This is called caloric stimulation. Treatment Your provider will do a procedure called Epley's maneuver. It can move the small piece of calcium that is floating inside your inner ear. This treatment works best to cure BPPV. Other exercises don't work as well. Some medicines can help relieve spinning sensations. Antihistamines Anticholinergics Sedative-hypnotics However, these medicines often do not work well for treating vertigo. To keep your symptoms from getting worse, avoid the positions that trigger it. Outlook (Prognosis) BPPV is uncomfortable, but it can usually be treated with Epley's maneuver. It may come back again without warning. Possible Complications People with severe vertigo may get dehydrated due to frequent vomiting. When to Contact a Medical Professional Call your health care provider if: You develop vertigo Treatment for vertigo doesn't work Get immediate medical help if you also have symptoms such as: Weakness Slurred speech Vision problems These may be signs of a more serious condition. Prevention Avoid head positions that trigger positional vertigo. The environment in Butler County continues to grow everyday with people and living things. As our community grows, the need for water conservation is high. People use water for baths (the average person spends about five minutes in the shower), to cook food, to wash there hands, to drink, to water plants, some people use water to fill up pools, wash cars, wash cloths (it takes about thirty-three gallons for a washing machine), and to wash dishes. The worldwide movement toward economic, financial, trade, and communications integration. Globalization implies the opening of local and nationalistic perspectives to a broader outlook of an interconnected and interdependent world with free transfer of capital, goods, and services across national frontiers. However, it does not include unhindered movement of labor and, as suggested by some economists, may hurt smaller or fragile economies if applied indiscriminately. Talk about an evening on the beach Night was falling. The setting sun’s red rays lit up the sky above the western horizon. I could see an oil tanker making its way across the sea just on the horizon. Soon the sun disappeared below the horizon and the sky turned dark but my two friends and I sat on the beach gazing at the place where the sun went down. Sunsets are mesmerizing as we discovered. Only when the mosquitoes started coming in great number were we brought back to reality. We picked ourselves up and walked towards a small pile of wood that we had made earlier. In the dark we could just make out shadows. My friend Francis had a torchlight. He switched it on to show the way. The night creatures were already busy with their activities. On our left where the land was, I could hear the shrill cries of the cicadas and other insects. On our right the waves broke gently on the shore sending up sprays of phosphorescent surf. The sounds and sights of nature were wonderful. The noise of occasional traffic along a road nearby was the only blemish to the otherwise perfect natural surroundings. The three of us were perhaps the only other blemishes. We had the torchlight on and soon we were going to light a bonfire. Nevertheless I proceeded to pour some kerosene onto the pile of wood and put a match to it. Slowly but steadily the fire grew. Soon we were basking in the orange glow of the bonfire. Salleh, my other friend, brought out the snacks and drinks from a bag. We had come to the beach to relax and enjoy ourselves. A bonfire can be mesmerizing too and so we spent a good two hours eating, drinking, talking and singing around it. A number of people appeared and we invited them to share in our little revelry. We did not know any of them, but it did not matter. All I knew was that we enjoyed ourselves in the warm glow of the bonfire which was a far cry from the cold stares of people on an ordinary street. However all good things must come to an end. The fire slowly died down and darkness regained its mastery. We said goodbye to our visitors and cleaned up the fireplace. Then we walked along the shoreline towards where Salleh had parked his car. Crabs both large and small scurried away at our approach. A gentle breeze rustled among the coconut palms. The black sky was full of glistening stars. It felt good to be alive. Finally we reached the car. We dumped our things in the boot and got into the car ourselves. Salleh started the car and soon we were headed home after spending a wonderful evening on the beach.

Custard Apples are a sub-tropical deciduous tree belonging to the Annonaceae family. This family contains over 2000 members spread throughout the world. Of this family, it is the atemeoya, a hybrid of the Annona genus, that Australia's commercial cultivars derive from. Custard Apple trees are large and spreading, shaded by large, green drooping leaves. The tree sets many light yellow trumpet shaped flowers that emit a pungent, sweet smell especially in the late afternoon when the male pollen sacks burst open. Of these flowers, only a small number will set fruit. The Fruit takes between 20 and 25 weeks to reach maturity in sub-tropical climates where the days are not too warm and the nights not too cool.
