bintulu port holdings berhad contributes 2,000 sets of personal protective equipment (ppe) to healthcare personnel and front-liners in sarawak’s four (4) major hospitals. 12 june 2020 bintulu: with the prolonged covid-19 pandemic and the surge in the requirements for personal protective equipment (ppe), bintulu port holdings berhad (bphb) is stepping up to ease the burden by donating 2,000 sets of ppe to four (4) major hospitals in sarawak. bphb appreciates the efforts and sacrifices of healthcare personnel and front-liners and has taken this initiative to contribute some rm200,000.00 worth of ppe sets. this effort is also in-line with the health ministry’s statement in encouraging various parties to donate ppe for the use of frontline personnel handling covid-19 patients and suspected cases. bphb’s group chief executive officer, dato medan abdullah said that everyone must be constantly vigilant and to take the necessary precautions while the pandemic is still ongoing since the vaccine for the virus is still not yet available. he added that, we must be prepared to respond to this public health threat at all times. this contribution is part of bphb group’s corporate social responsibility (csr) initiatives to help the general hospitals in the state and to assist to replenish their ppe stock. the ppes will be allocated and distributed to sarawak’s four (4) major hospitals namely bintulu general hospital, miri general hospital, sibu general hospital and kuching general hospital. each of this hospital will be receiving five hundred (500) ppe sets. the distribution of ppes to general hospitals in miri, sibu and kuching will be accomplished within these coming weeks. sitc container lines co. ltd. (sitc), being one of the leading intra-asia container lines and one of the top main line operators (mlos) calling bintulu port since 2014, is collaborating with bphb in obtaining the ppes and assisting one-stop logistics from china to sarawak. through this collaboration, sitc container lines (sarawak) sdn. bhd. sponsored the sea transportation of the ppes from china direct to bintulu international container terminal (bict). mr. marco xu, general manager for sitc container lines (sarawak) sdn. bhd. said that he was pleased to be part of this csr project collaboration with bphb in the joint efforts in fighting against covid-19. he added that the satisfying feeling of giving back and contributing to the local community is unparalleled. dato mohammad medan, bphb’s group executive officer said this collaboration between bphb and sitc container lines (sarawak) sdn. bhd. demonstrates what can be done by corporations to contribute and support the government’s efforts in the fight against the pandemic. this contribution comprises medical-grade critical ppes which includes disposable medical isolation gowns, a single-use protective shoe covers, medical face shields, and a medical latex examination gloves. these ppes are the much-needed protective gears for the healthcare personnel and front-liners in discharging their daily duties to save lives in fighting against the covid-19 pandemic. a simple ppe handing-over event at hospital bintulu was held today attended by dr. davis johnraj, director of bintulu general hospital, mr. hussaini hakim, assistant resident from bintulu resident and bphb’s management team. dr. davis johnraj, director of bintulu general hospital congratulated bintulu port holdings berhad and sitc container lines (sarawak) sdn. bhd. for their selfless support and contribution to general hospital bintulu. he added that this donation is a meaningful way of supporting the society and expressed his gratitude and appreciation on behalf of the bintulu general hospital and the other general hospitals who will be receiving the ppe. he also encourages other organizations to emulate bphb’s efforts in helping our nation to fight the covid-19 pandemic.
