one day, a poor man arrived at the sanctuary carrying a bundle of wood
ཇི་ཙམ་ན་མི་དབུལ་པོ་ཞིག་ཤིང་ཁུར་ཐོགས་ཏེ་

at a time when king mahāpadma and his armies were dominant,
གང་གི་ཚེ་རྒྱལ་པོ་པད་མ་ཆེན་པོ་དཔུང་དང་མཐུ་ཆེ་བ་དེའི་ཚེ་ན། །

kolita refused food for one day,
དེ་ནས་བྲམ་ཟེའི་ཁྱེའུ་པང་ནས་སྐྱེས་ཀྱིས་ཉི་མ་གཅིག་ཀྱང་ཟན་གཅད་པ་བྱས་སོ། །

at a time when the king of aṅga and his armies were dominant,
གང་གི་ཚེ་ཨང་གའི་རྒྱལ་པོ་དཔུང་དང་མཐུ་ཆེ་བ་དེའི་ཚེ་ན།

as spokes at a hub’s collapse.”

at a certain point, the householder from Śrāvastī
ཇི་ཙམ་ན་ཁྱིམ་བདག་དེས་དེ་ན་

མཁན་པོ་དུས་གང་གི་ཚེ། དུས་མང་གེ་མོ་ཞིག་གི་ཚེའོ། །

ཇི་ཙམ་ན་དགེ་འདུན་གྱི་གནས་བརྟན་དེས་ཆུ་ཁ་ཕོར་དུ་བླུགས་ནས་

“we venerables must put off our other business for a time.”
ཚེ་དང་ལྡན་པ་དག་བདག་ཅག་གིས་ཡུན་ཇི་སྲིད་ཀྱིས་བྲེལ་བ་སྤང་བར་བྱ།

after a time, monks who were paying homage to stūpas passed by.
ཇི་ཙམ་ན་དགེ་སློང་མཆོད་རྟེན་ལ་ཕྱག་འཚལ་བ་དག་ཕྱོགས་དེ་ནས་

at a certain point, the householder unexpectedly accosted the debtor, saying,
དུས་གཞན་ཞིག་ན་ཁྱིམ་བདག་དེས་བུ་ལོན་ཆགས་པ་དེ་མ་ཚོར་བ་ཁོ་ནར་བཟུང་ནས་སྨྲས་པ།

at a certain point, the householder insulted his son, prompting his son to think,
དུས་གཞན་ཞིག་ན་དེས་བུ་དེ་སྤྱོས་པ་དང་། བུ་དེས་བསམས་པ།

“at a certain point, his sister sūkṣmā grew into a woman and at the time, beset by disturbing emotions, said,
གང་གི་ཚེ་བུ་མོ་ཞིབ་མ་མོ་ཆེན་མོར་གྱུར་པ་དེའི་ཚེ་ན་ཉོན་མོངས་པ་དག་གིས་གནོད་པར་གྱུར་ནས་དེས་སྨྲས་པ།

at a certain point, the householder’s kin had dwindled, his riches had dwindled,
དེ་ནས་དུས་གཞན་ཞིག་ན་ཁྱིམ་བདག་དེ་ཉེ་དུ་ཟད་པར་གྱུར་ཅིང་ནོར་ཟད་པ་དང་།

so he remained silent. “after a time their rage passed, and when it did he went to them
དེས་ཅང་མི་སྨྲ་བར་བསྡད་ནས་གང་གི་ཚེ་དེ་དག་ཀུན་ནས་དཀྲིས་པ་དང་བྲལ་བ་དེའི་ཚེ་ན་གན་དུ་སོང་སྟེ་
