གྲོང་ན་ལ་དག་ལ་བ་དེར་འཕགས་སོ། །
he left the village of kāṣṭhavāṭa and set out for the village of nālada.

སྡོམ་ལ། ལག་རྡུམ་དག་དང་རྐང་རྡུམ་དང་། །
an index: those with missing hands, missing legs,

དེ་དག་དོགས་ལ་གནས་པའི་རྡུལ་དག་དང་བསྐྲུན་ན་
if we used those specks to produce all the dirt on the earth,

དེས་ཀྱང་མཁན་པོ་ལ་ཅི་ཡོངས་སུ་དག་གམ་ཞེས་དྲིས་ནས་
the preceptor again asks the postulant whether he is utterly free of impediments,

ཕྱིན་ནས་བཅོམ་ལྡན་འདས་ལ་མེ་ཏོག་དག་གིས་མངོན་པར་གཏོར་ཏེ།
on his arrival, he strewed the flowers before the blessed one

ས་ལ་གནས་པའི་རྡུལ་དག་ཇི་སྙེད་པ་དེ་སྙེད་ཀྱི་སེམས་ཅན་དག་ནི་
“sentient beings equal in number to the particles of dirt on the earth

དེ་ཉན་ཐོས་རྣམས་ལ་དགེ་སློང་དག་དགོན་པ་དང་། ཤིང་དྲུང་དང་།
he taught the dharma to his disciples, saying, ‘monks, make your beds in forests and at the foot of trees;

དེ་དག་གིས་དེ་ལ་སྨྲས་པ།
his parents then said to him,

དགེ་སློང་དེ་འདྲ་བ་ལ་འདག་རྫས་དང་། སོ་ཤིང་དག་བསྟབ་པར་མི་བྱ།
such a monk should not be given soap or a toothbrush.

མེར་འཇུག་གི་བུ་འཇིག་རྟེན་ན་དགེ་སྦྱོང་ངམ་བྲམ་ཟེ་གང་ལ་ལ་དག་ལྟ་བ་འདི་ཡང་འདོར་
son of a self-immolator, in this world those ascetics and brahmins who discard this view,

རྙེད་ན་ལུས་ཅན་རྣམས་ལ་ནི། །འབྲས་བུ་དག་ཏུ་འགྱུར་བ་ཉིད། །
when the time and the conditions are right, they alight upon embodied beings.

ཅིའི་ཕྱིར་འདི་དག་ལ་གསོལ་བ་མི་འདེབས།
why do you not request teachings from them?”

ཇི་ཙམ་ན་དེ་དག་དྲོ་ལ་བབ་སྟེ་གཎྜཱི་བརྡུངས་ན་
some time later, the meal was laid out and when the wooden beam was struck,

ཤེས་ལྡན་དག་བྲམ་ཟེ་སྐར་རྒྱལ་ལ་རྒོལ་བའི་ལོངས་སྤྱོད་བྱིན་ཅིག
“gentlemen, give the brahmin tiṣya a victor’s prize.”

ཁམས་དང་སྐྱེ་མཆེད་དག་ལ་རྣམ་པར་སྨིན་པར་འགྱུར་ཏེ།
elements, and seats of the senses of the one who performed them:

ཐང་ལ་ཉལ་དང་རྡུལ་དང་དྲི་མ་དང་། །ཙོག་བུའི་སྤོང་བས་མི་དག་འབྱུང་མི་འགྱུར། །
sleeping rough, unwashed and smelly; and never squatting, do not make men pure.

གཞོན་ནུ་གཟུགས་ཅན་སྙིང་པོས་བློན་པོའི་བུ་ལྔ་བརྒྱ་པོ་དག་ལ་སྨྲས་པ།
prince bimbisāra said to the five hundred sons of the ministers,

ཀྱེ་མ་དེ་དག་བདག་ཉིད་མ་དུལ་བར་གཞན་དུལ་བར་བྱེད་པ་དེ་ནི་གནས་མེད་ལ།
alas! it is impossible for those who have not disciplined themselves to discipline others.

དགེ་སློང་དག་ཀྱང་དེ་གཉིས་ལ་ལྷུང་བཟེད་ཀྱི་ལྷག་མ་སྦྱིན་པར་བྱེད་དོ། །
and in return the monks gave them the leftovers from their begging bowls.

ཇོ་བོ་ཁྱེའུ་འདིའི་ན་ཟླ་ཁྱེའུ་དག་གིས་ཁྱོད་ལ་ཅི་འབུལ་བ་དེ་བདག་ཀྱང་ཁྱོད་ལ་འབུལ་ན།
“master, whatever the other boys of the lad’s age may offer you, i too will give you.
