For the purposes of this Directive, "plastics" shall mean the organic macromolecular compounds obtained by polymerisation, polycondensation, polyaddition or any other similar process from molecules with a lower molecular weight or by chemical alteration of natural macromolecules.

Ai sensi della presente direttiva per « materia plastica » s'intende il composto macromolecolare organico ottenuto per polimerizzazione, policondensazione, poliaddizione o qualsiasi altro procedimento simile da molecole di peso molecolare inferiore o per modifica chimica di macromolecole naturali. Materie plastiche sono anche considerati i siliconi e gli altri composti macromolecolari simili. A questo composto macromolecolare possono essere aggiunte altre sostanze o materie.
