Lungo la Provinciale Noto Palazzolo Acreide, una strada conduce all'altura del Finocchio, importante insediamento protostorico (ultimo periodo siculo IX/VII sec. a.C.). Numerose sono le testimonianze della cultura delle popolazioni che lo abitarono che risentì sicuramente dell'ultima fase della civiltà castellucciana. Nelle necropoli ancora esistenti sono stati rinvenuti corredi funerari, oggetti bronzei e di ferro, monili e vasi ceramici utilizzati per rapporti commerciali con i corinzi di Siracusa. L'antica Avola sorgeva sulle colline iblee a Nord-Ovest dell'attuale sito, e precisamente sul Monte Aquilone. I resti archeologici rinvenuti sia sulla collina sia nella pianura sottostante (resti di villa ellenistico-romana, ipogei paleocristiani, e necropoli bizantine) testimoniano la presenza umana in tutto il territorio fin dalla preistoria. Numerose sono le necropoli di origine sicula collocate sui fianchi delle colline avolesi, risalenti ai secoli X-VIII a.C., a ridosso, quindi, della prima colonizzazione greca.

Ancient Avola standed on the Hyblean hills northwest of the current site, namely Mount Aquilone. The remains found on the hill and on the plain below (remains of a Hellenistic-Roman villa, early Christian hypogea and a Byzantine necropolis) testify to the human presence throughout the area since prehistoric times. There are numerous necropolis of Sicilian origin, located on Avola hillsides, dating from the X-VIII BC, close, therefore, to the first Greek colonization.

Fuori dal centro abitato Noto conserva un ricco patrimonio naturalistico, archeologico e storico di straordinaria importanza. Tappa obbligata per il visitatore, oltre alle importanti zone di Finocchito e Castelluccio, dove sono gli avanzi delle omonime stazioni preistoriche, è il Monte Alveria con le rovine di Noto Antica che alcuni studiosi hanno definito una Pompei medievale. Vi coesistono necropoli sicule, resti ellenistici, protocristiani, ebraici, bizantini, arabi, normanni, rinascimentali ed anche barocchi. Di notevole interesse è anche la Valle dei Miracoli, con la Cava dei Pizzoni resa celebre dalla presenza eremitica di alcuni Santi tra i quali San Corrado Confalonieri e San Guglielmo di Scicli. Lungo la costa meritano una visita i resti della città greca di Eloro, con gli avanzi della cinta muraria, il Teatro Greco, il Tempio di Demetra, i depositi alimentari sotterranei, e ancora la Colonna Pizzuta, distante pochi chilometri dalla città. Fuori dal centro abitato di Noto va ricordata la zona residenziale di San Corrado Fuori le Mura, sviluppatasi attorno all'eremo omonimo, nei cui locali adibiti a museo si conserva, fra gli altri oggetti, un prezioso presepe in cera eseguito da frate Ignazio Macca e datato 1800.

Relevant, outside the town of Noto is the residential area of ​​San Corrado Fuori le Mura, developed around the hermitage of the same name, where the museum created in its premises preserve, among other items, a precious wax crib created by Brother Ignazio Macca, dated 1800.
