Steel construction has so many advantages: the strength to weight ratio is excellent, metals join easily, efficient shapes are available, etc. With those advantages, though, come some challenges that are best solved by a good understanding of how the metals actually perform in a structure.

Youth And Money Do young people spend their money wisely? Today young people spend their money foolishly because of circumstances and pressure from friends and other young people. No matter how much money young people have, they often use that money on shopping. This is very normal today because living a young life is very expensive. For example, we need money to buy clothes and in high school or college young people often wear expensive clothes which have great style and name brands: Tommy Hilfiger, Nike, Reebok, Fubu, etc. There s always competition in styles and young people tend to keep up with the fashion trend. There are many reasons why young people dress in clothes that are very expensive, stylish. Boys dress nicely to attract attention. They want to be like a celebrity so fashion is an issue. The same goes for girls, but there is competition against the same sex. For example, one girl wants to dress better than others. Looks are also an issue. Young people spend most of their money on themselves buying beauty products and for personal reasons. For example boys need haircuts and groom themselves very neatly so that their hair looks attractive. But girls not only spend their money on hair, but also on makeup, shoes, nails and facials. Money is also spent on other personal products like cars, magazines, educational supplies, and entertainment. Especially teenagers in schools always want the best looking cars. By having the best looking cars makes the owners popular. Girls mostly spend money on magazine subscriptions such as seventeen, vogue, etc., mostly to check out the latest fashion clothing, shoes, and news on celebrities like those boy-band and young actors. On the other hand boys buy magazines especially on cars and games. Also today young people also wants the best educational supplies there is like backpacks which have a famous name brand on it, pens and pencils that are very stylish, calculators and all these supplies should be the best of the best and high tech. And at all time money is spent on entertainment purposes which is buying c.d s, video tapes, concert tickets, theme park tickets like the Great America or Marine world. Money is mostly spent at young age because we have the responsibility or learn how to save money. Because at this age we actually don t save money but spent it sooner or later. I mean we do save money but money is spent for a better purpose. Also to make us look good in society because if I were to save a huge amount of money to purchase a home for myself than that means that I won t be able to buy clothes, shoes, etc. And if I don t keep up with the fashion than people will start bad rumors about me and how I look. They will give negative opinion without knowing the real truth. Money isn t necessarily spent for other people s benefit but also for ourselves, to make us feel comfortable. We can t ignore the fact that it s okay not to keep up with fashion because there is someone out there who will criticize about people s dressing, looks etc. This is how young people interact or communicate with each other. A formal social conversation when meeting new peoples always about that someone s wearing, what someone looks, etc. This is how people get to know each other. For example, if I were to wear the famous Tommy Hilfiger clothes and look attractive and have the best looking car in the school, its going to be obvious that I ll be very popular and will attract everyone s attention. In addition for personal benefit, living a young life can be expensive but at the same time its very fun, exciting and comfortable. Young life is the only one time chance someone can enjoy live which will be absolutely rewarding. Not that when you get old and get married but that s a different case. Being single and young is very different in ways that are unexplainable. Although it is said that young people are expensive, we use money for our own benefit and also for others.

Youth and Money Children have always accounted for a portion of the economy without jobs for the most of their childhoods now a days it seems as if they are the driving force behind what their parents spend. Everything from clothing to food, cars to the furniture in their homes and definitely electronics, it seems as if children are exponentially making the final financial decisions in households or at least part of the reason rather they no it or not. That is mainly because of the advertising that is being absorbed by today’s youth. “There is a lot of opportunity to really work with advertisers in terms of new media, to leverage the relationship we have with our users “Though toys and food are advertising staples, nontraditional categories, including automobiles and life insurance and cell phones, are becoming more involved in the big picture of those executives and more traditional arena such as; movies, gaming and toys, and other markets are areas with potential growth this year. “Also of the 26 million teen in 2009, I Gillott Research forecasts that 4 million will be using their own cell phones which they use to communicate with friends during the day (Promo (Online Exclusive).” This shows how much influence children have on their parents and on the economy. “Teen are the most fickle group of spenders and junior apparel firms are planning to offer them plenty of must-haves because they have to compete with the technology market for their dollars “ “The teen market explosion coincides with an explosion of edgier celebrity-driven fashion because of the amount of coverage given to celebrity style in the magazines and on the Internet, and teen are following the trends like never before. For years, there were relatively few stores like Limited Too catering to these fledgling fashion “These days, an increasing number of celebrity-driven teen lines are popping up to fuel the fashion frenzy. Violation Processing To understand what has actually taken place during a computing session, it is often necessary to have a mechanism that captures the detail surrounding access, particularly accesses occurring outside the bounds of anticipated actions. Any activity beyond those designed into the system and specifically permitted by the generally established rules of the site should be considered a violation. Capturing activity permits determination of whether a violation has occurred or whether elements of software and hardware implementation were merely omitted, therefore requiring modification. In this regard, tracking and analyzing violations are equally important. Violation tracking is necessary to satisfy the requirements for the due care of information. Without violation tracking, the ability to determine excesses or unauthorized use becomes extremely difficult, if not impossible. For example, a general user might discover that, because of an administrative error, he or she can access system control functions. Adequate, regular tracking highlights such inappropriate privileges before errors can occur. An all-too-frequently overlooked component of violation processing is analysis. Violation analysis permits an organization to locate and understand specific trouble spots, both in security and usability. Violation analysis can be used to find: • The types of violations occurring. For example: —Are repetitive mistakes being made? This might be a sign of poor implementation or user training. —Are individuals exceeding their system needs? This might be an indication of weak control implementation. —Do too many people have too many update abilities? This might be a result of inadequate information security design. • Where the violations are occurring, which might help identify program or design problems. • Patterns that can provide an early warning of serious intrusions (e.g., hackers or disgruntled employees). A specialized form of violation examination, intrusion analysis (i.e., attempting to provide analysis of intrusion patterns), is gaining increased attention. As expert systems gain in popularity and ability, their use in analyzing patterns and recognizing potential security violations will grow. The need for such automated methods is based on the fact that intrusions continue to increase rapidly in quantity and intensity and are related directly to the increasing number of personal computers connected to various networks. The need for automated methods is not likely to diminish in the near future, at least not until laws surrounding computer intrusion are much more clearly defined and enforced. Currently, these laws are not widely enforced because damages and injuries are usually not reported and therefore cannot be proven. Overburdened law enforcement officials are hesitant to actively pursue these violations because they have more pressing cases (e.g., murder and assault). Although usually less damaging from a physical injury point of view, information security violations may be significantly damaging in monetary terms. In several well-publicized cases, financial damage has exceeded $10 million. Not only do violation tracking and analysis assist in proving violations by providing a means for determining user errors and the occasional misuse of data, they also provide assistance in preventing serious crimes from going unnoticed and therefore unchallenged.

WASHINGTON (AP) - Earth's magnetic field is about to be shaken like a snow globe by the largest solar storm in five years. After hurtling through space for a day and a half, a massive cloud of charged particles is due to arrive early Thursday and could disrupt utility grids, airline flights, satellite networks and GPS services, especially in northern areas. But the same blast also could paint colorful auroras farther from the poles than normal. Scientists say the storm, which started with a massive solar flare early in the week, is growing as it races outward from the sun, expanding like a giant soap bubble. When it strikes early Thursday, the particles will be moving at 4 million mph (6.4 million kph). "It's hitting us right in the nose," said Joe Kunches, a scientist for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in Boulder, Colorado. Astronomers say the sun has been relatively quiet for some time. And this storm, while strong, may seem fiercer because Earth has been lulled by several years of weak solar activity. The storm is part of the sun's normal 11-year cycle, which is supposed to reach peak storminess next year. Solar storms do not harm people, but they do disrupt technology. And during the last peak around 2002, experts learned that GPS was vulnerable to solar outbursts. Because new technology has flourished since then, scientists could discover that some new systems also are at risk, said Jeffrey Hughes, director of the Center for Integrated Space Weather Modeling at Boston University. A decade ago, this type of solar storm happened a couple of times a year, Hughes said. "This is a good-size event, but not the extreme type," said Bill Murtagh, program coordinator for the federal government's Space Weather Prediction Center. The sun erupted Tuesday evening, and the most noticeable effects should arrive here between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. EST Thursday, according to forecasters at the space weather center. The effects could linger through Friday morning. The region of the sun that erupted can still send more blasts Earth's way, Kunches said. He said another set of active sunspots is ready to aim at Earth right after this. "This is a big sun spot group, particularly nasty," NASA solar physicist David Hathaway said. "Things are really twisted up and mixed up. It keeps flaring." Storms like this start with sun spots, Hathaway said. Then comes an initial solar flare of subatomic particles that resemble a filament coming out of the sun. That part already hit Earth only minutes after the initial burst, bringing radio and radiation disturbances. After that comes the coronal mass ejection, which looks like a growing bubble and takes a couple of days to reach Earth. It's that ejection that could cause magnetic disruptions Thursday. "It could give us a bit of a jolt," NASA solar physicist Alex Young said. The storm follows an earlier, weaker solar eruption that happened Sunday, Kunches said. For North America, the good part of a solar storm, the one that creates more noticeable auroras or Northern Lights, will peak Thursday evening in North America. Auroras could dip as far south as the Great Lakes between Canada and the United States or lower, Kunches said, but a full moon will make them harder to see. Auroras are "probably the treat we get when the sun erupts," Kunches said. Still, the potential for problems is widespread. Solar storms have three ways they can disrupt technology on Earth: with magnetic, radio and radiation emissions. This is an unusual situation, when all three types of solar storm disruptions are likely to be strong, Kunches said. That makes it the strongest overall since December 2006. That means "a whole host of things" could follow, he said. North American utilities are monitoring for abnormalities on their grids and have contingency plans, said Kimberly Mielcarek, spokeswoman for the North American Electric Reliability Corp., a consortium of electricity grid operators. In 1989, a strong solar storm knocked out the power grid in Quebec, causing 6 million people to lose power. Solar storms also can make global positioning systems less accurate and cause GPS outages. The storm could trigger communication problems and additional radiation around the north and south poles - a risk that probably will force airlines to reroute flights. Some already have done so, Kunches said. Satellites could be affected, too. NASA spokesman Rob Navias said the space agency is not taking any extra precautions to protect astronauts on the International Space Station from added radiation.

Background of the Study One of the strong aims of the nursing fields is to attract a high-quality group of nursing staffs comprised of staff nurses that have professional experiences in the discipline (Yoder-Wise, 2003). This primary aim of the nursing field is substantiated by the fact that increased satisfaction that is experienced by patients and their families may only be achieved if the staff nurses possess a high-level quality of care. In addition to this, staff nurses are also expected to possess a strong knowledge base on their professions as well as execute professional care delivery in a holistic way. In the present system of care delivery, it is strongly being promoted that staff nurses must demonstrate professionalism in all areas of their job functions (Yoder-Wise, 2003). The strong promotion of the healthcare institutions on professionalism among staff nurses is mainly driven by the fact that staff nurses possess high accountability levels in their line of work (Yoder-Wise, 2003). Not only are they expected to provide job satisfaction among their patients and their patients’ families, but they are also being encouraged to grow in their knowledge and experience for as long as they maintain their professions (Yoder-Wise, 2003). Over the years of their exercise on nursing practices, there is a huge tendency for their skills to slowly be degraded and this primarily the reason why in the nursing field, the further refinement of the skills of staff nurses are being encouraged (Yoder-Wise, 2003). In order for them to provide the maximum amount of quality patient care, it is a must that they pursue additional knowledge and learning sources which will not only benefit them but also their patients and ultimately the entire healthcare industry (Yoder-Wise, 2003). According to Yfantis, Tiniakou, and Yfanti (2010) the concept of continuing professional development or CPD is defined as a “systematic maintenance” that is aimed at improving and broadening the set of knowledge and skills and promote the development of the personal qualities of staff nurses that are necessary for the professional execution of their technical duties as healthcare staffs (Yfantis, Tiniakou, and Yfanti, 2010). Magginson and Whitaker (2003) the process involved in the continuing professional development actually allows the individuals to take control of their own methods of learning and development as it pushes them to engage continuously in an ongoing process comprised of consistent action and reflection. Before, whereas CPD is mainly considered as being sought to satisfy the needs of each individual, it is now gradually being used to provide the needs of the employers and the entire profession for benefit of the society in its entirety (DiMauro, 2000). In the field of nursing, the concept of CPD has especially gained renown as a critical subset and means of promoting lifelong learning (Magginson and Whitaker, 2003). It has gained special recognition in its professional and personal application because in the recent years, it has played a role in addressing the needs of the health service delivery sector including the individual learning needs of the various healthcare professionals (DiMauro, 2000; Magginson and Whitaker, 2003). Nevertheless, the problem was that many staff nurses and other healthcare professionals have encountered challenges in terms of gaining access to the continuing professional development as in most case, the ones who are supposed to be given opportunities for CPD are being limited by the traditional methods of learning like the usual academic programmes. Unfortunately also, those few individuals who managed to take CPD programmes suffer from the shortcomings in the quality of the training programmes that are being provided to them. But regardless of the criticisms ((DiMauro, 2000) against the different CPD programmes that are currently being provided to staff nurses, continuing professional development is still being strongly promoted in order to cover the additional learning needs of the professional nurses and enable them to acquire extra skills and talents that will effectively facilitate the development of their careers in the succeeding years (DiMauro, 2000). This dissertation paper aims to justify the importance and the benefits of continuing professional development for staff nurses in line with increasing their knowledge and skills as well as improving the quality of the different services and departments of the different healthcare institutions. Also, since the CPD is considered as the main method to improve the self-image of staff nurses including the way they treat their patients and their patients’ families, this dissertation paper will try to explore how it can indeed benefit the staff nurses in relation to their basic functions and job responsibilities in the institutions they serve (Wood, 2006). B. Aims and Objectives of the Study The main aim and objective of this dissertation study is to propose the promotion of the continuing professional development for staff nurse in order to increase their knowledge and skills, improve the quality of services they provide, and improve the self-image of the departments they serve. This is in line with the various literature references stating that continuing learning is beneficial to an individual regardless of his

Global plate tectonic movement An earthquake (also known as a quake, tremor or temblor) is the result of a sudden release of energy in the Earth's crust that creates seismic waves. The seismicity, seismism or seismic activity of an area refers to the frequency, type and size of earthquakes experienced over a period of time. Earthquakes are measured using observations from seismometers. The moment magnitude is the most common scale on which earthquakes larger than approximately 5 are reported for the entire globe. The more numerous earthquakes smaller than magnitude 5 reported by national seismological observatories are measured mostly on the local magnitude scale, also referred to as the Richter scale. These two scales are numerically similar over their range of validity. Magnitude 3 or lower earthquakes are mostly almost imperceptible and magnitude 7 and over potentially cause serious damage over large areas, depending on their depth. The largest earthquakes in historic times have been of magnitude slightly over 9, although there is no limit to the possible magnitude. The most recent large earthquake of magnitude 9.0 or larger was a 9.0 magnitude earthquake in Japan in 2011 (as of March 2011), and it was the largest Japanese earthquake since records began. Intensity of shaking is measured on the modified Mercalli scale. The shallower an earthquake, the more damage to structures it causes, all else being equal.[1] At the Earth's surface, earthquakes manifest themselves by shaking and sometimes displacement of the ground. When the epicenter of a large earthquake is located offshore, the seabed may be displaced sufficiently to cause a tsunami. Earthquakes can also trigger landslides, and occasionally volcanic activity. In its most general sense, the word earthquake is used to describe any seismic event — whether natural or caused by humans — that generates seismic waves. Earthquakes are caused mostly by rupture of geological faults, but also by other events such as volcanic activity, landslides, mine blasts, and nuclear tests. An earthquake's point of initial rupture is called its focus or hypocenter. The epicenter is the point at ground level directly above the hypocenter. History The contemporary wedding cake has grown out of many traditions. One of the first traditions began in Ancient Rome; bread was broken over the bride’s head to bring good fortune to the couple.[2] In medieval England cakes were stacked as high as possible for the bride and groom to kiss over, if they successfully kissed over the stack they were guaranteed a prosperous life.[3] From this the Croquembouche was created. The legend of this cake says that a pastry chef, visiting medieval England, witnessed their tradition of piling sweet rolls between the bride and groom which they would attempt to kiss over without knocking them all down. The pastry chef then went back to France and piled sweet rolls up into a tower to make the first Croquembouche.[2] In some places where “bride’s pie” was served, guests were expected to have a piece out of politeness←; it was considered very rude to not have a piece. One of the traditions of bride’s pie was to place a ring in the middle and the maiden who found it would be the next to marry, similar to the modern tradition of catching the flower bouquet. Bride pie developed into bride cake in the 17th century though the bride’s pie remained popular until the 19th century. The bride cake was traditionally a plum or fruit cake.[1] Fruit cakes were a sign of fertility and prosperity which helped them gain popularity. The bride’s cake eventually transformed into the modern wedding cake. [4] In the 1600s two cakes were made, one for the bride and one for the groom. When the two cake began being served together, the groom's cake was typically the darker colored, rich fruitcake. In contrast, the bride’s cake was usually a simple pound cake with white icing because white was a sign of virginity and purity.[5] The white coloring also had other meanings for people in the 17th century. Sugar was becoming easier to obtain, but the more refined and whiter sugars were expensive; having a very pure white frosting showed off the wealth of the family.[6] When Queen Victoria used white icing on her cake it gained a new title, royal icing.[7] The modern wedding cake as we know it now originated with Prince Leopold, Duke of Albany’s marriage and wedding cake in 1882; his was the first to actually be completely edible. His cakes were iced, and after the ice hardened, they were stacked on top of each other to create a tiered cake, using the icing for support was not common before his wedding. In 1902, pillars to separate and support the tiers of the layered cake were developed. The tiers represented prosperity and were also a status symbol for the family who could afford a tiered cake.[8] [edit]Symbolism One of the most obvious symbolic traditions is the cake’s white color to symbolize virginity and purity. Cutting the cake together as bride and groom symbolizes their first task in married life. However, this tradition actually originated because the wife needed her husband’s strength to cut through the thick, hard icing on the early modern wedding cake. By feeding each other the bride and groom are symbolizing their commitment to provide for each other.[9] [edit]Superstitions The wedding cake is surrounded by superstitions; its origins are even based on one. The cake being broken over the bride’s head was to bring good fortune to the couple. The guests would eat the crumbs from the broken cake for good luck. When the bride pie was served, often a ring was placed in the middle and the maiden who found it would be the next to marry. Every guest was expected to have a piece because the pie was assurance that the couple would be happy together, it was very rude for a guest to not have any of the pie.[10] Another superstition was that bachelorettes should sleep with a piece of the cake under her pillow and she would dream of the person fate intended for her. Another way to dream of their future husbands was for the bride and groom to pass pieces of cake through the bride’s wedding ring and then the bachelorette would then sleep with a crumb of it in her left stocking and the rest under her pillow.[11] [edit]Modern adaptations A contemporary wedding cake Wedding cake toppers are small models that sit on top of the cake, normally a representation of a bride and groom in formal wedding attire. This custom was dominant in US weddings in the 1950s where it represented the concept of togetherness.[12] Wedding toppers today are often figures that indicate shared hobbies or other passions, if they are used at all.[12] Wedding cakes can also be decorated with flowers. In the United Kingdom, the traditional wedding cake is made from a rich fruitcake, although many modern cakes now consist of either vanilla sponge, chocolate sponge or carrot cake. Most cakes are between three and five tiers in height. Among some more elaborate cakes the United Kingdom see are those prepared for the Royal Weddings.
