* HEV: Hybrid Electric Vehicle EV: electric VehicleAdoption of hybrid and electric vehicles is increasing as a way to alleviate global warming by cutting CO2 emissions by automobiles. A hybrid vehicle (HEV) uses a conventional internal combustion engine (powered by gasoline) and an electric motor in combination. By relying on the electric motor as a source of motive power when starting, driving at low speeds, and accelerating, fuel consumption and CO2 emissions can be reduced substantially. During deceleration the motor functions as an electrical generator, converting excess kinetic energy into electricity that is used to charge the HEV's battery (regenerative braking). An electric vehicle (EV) dispenses with the internal combustion engine altogether, using the electric motor alone for motive power and for regeneration. An EV therefore produces even fewer CO2 emissions than an HEV. Since the motor in an HEV or EV system consumes a large amount of electricity when operating, such vehicles require a high-voltage HEV/EV battery (several hundred volts) of a type not used in conventional vehicles powered by gasoline engines. * HEV: Hybrid Electric Vehicle EV: electric Vehicle地球温暖化対策の一環として、自動車のCO2排出量削減要求が高まる中、HEV/EV*の普及拡大が進んでいます。 HEV は、従来の内燃機関（ガソリンエンジン）と電動機（モータ）を組み合わせたシステムであり、発進時・低速走行時・ 急加速時にモータにより走行することで低燃費・低CO2排出量を実現できるシステムです。 減速時には、モータを発電機として用いることで減速時の運動エネルギーを電力に変換し、HEV用バッテリへの充電（回生制御）も行なっています。 EVは、内燃機関を完全に無くしモータのみで走行・回生を行なっているシステムであり、HEVよりも低CO2排出量が実現できるシステムです。 HEV/EVシステムでは、モータ走行時に大きな電力量を消費するため、ガソリンエンジン車には無かったHEV/EV用高電圧バッテリ （数100Vレベル）を搭載しており、HEV/EV用バッテリの電圧検出や充電制御も行なっています。 ルネサスでは、これらHEV/EVシステムにおける新技術（モータジェネレータシステム、バッテリ制御システム、バッテリ充電・ DC/DCコンバータシステム）へMCU/ASIC/パワーデバイス（IGBT、パワーMOSFET）等、キットによる提案・提供をしています。 * HEV: Hybrid Electric Vehicle EV: electric Vehicle
