Cuando miro hacia atrás hacia estos años quiero recordar en primer lugar a nuestro colega Basil de Ferranti, quien entretanto desgraciadamente ha fallecido y que a la sazón redactó los primeros informes sobre la realización del mercado interior dando de este modo el impulso para toda esta evolución.

Als ik terugkijk naar het verleden zie ik allereerst onze collega Basil de Ferranti voor me, die inmiddels helaas is overleden. Sheep farming has been long established on the island. One of the earliest written records shows that in the year 1376 Irish invaders defeated Manxmen in a battle and seized large numbers of sheep from Rushen Abbey. Subsequent historical references refer to the breed with respect to both its wool and meat. For example, in 1794 Basil Quayle writes that "the ancient flocks are small and hardy, their usual weight is from five to eight pounds a quarter, the meat being particularly good".

De schapenhouderij wordt van oudsher op het eiland beoefend. Uit een van de vroegste schriftelijke bronnen blijkt dat Ierse invallers de bewoners van het eiland Man in het jaar 1376 hebben verslagen en grote aantallen schapen van Rushen Abbey in beslag hebben genomen. In latere historische bronnen wordt over de wol en het vlees van het ras gesproken. Zo schrijft bijvoorbeeld Basil Quayle in 1794: "De oude kuddes zijn klein en gehard, een lambsbout weegt gewoonlijk tussen vijf en acht pond en het vlees is bijzonder lekker.".

Looking back over these years, I would like to start by recalling our colleague Basil de Ferranti, now sadly deceased, who at that time drafted the first reports on the creation of the internal market and thereby initiated this whole development.

Add one or two anchovy fillets (in small pieces) along with the basil leaves, some parsley (without stems) and a dessertspoonful of oil.

Voeg hieraan 1 of 2 ansjovisfilets (in kleine stukjes) toe samen met de basilicumblaadjes, wat peterselie (zonder steeltjes) en een eetlepel olie.

Add the finely sliced shallot and garlic along with the banana, a teaspoon of capers, the coriander leaves, basil, parsley (without stems), a generous dessertspoon of tomato ketchup, a teaspoon of chilli powder and finish off with a little salt.

Voeg hieraan de fijn gesneden sjalot en knoflook toe, samen met de banaan, een eetlepel kappertjes, de blaadjes koriander, basilicum, peterselie (zonder steeltjes), een flinke eetlepel tomatenketchup, een theelepel chilipoeder en afmaken met wat zout.
