a class III was established by the Regulations laying down standards for leeks, aubergines, courgettes, tomatoes, onions, witloof chicory, cherries, strawberries, Brussels sprouts, table grapes, lettuces, curled-leaved and broad-leaved (Batavian) endives, cucumbers, citrus fruit and dessert apples and pears;

fresh, chilled, frozen or dried vegetables cultivated for their leaves or stalks (asparagus, broccoli, cauliflower, endives, fennel, spinach, etc.), for their fruit (aubergines, cucumbers, courgettes, green peppers, pumpkins, tomatoes, etc.), and for their roots (beetroots, carrots, onions, parsnips, radishes, turnips, etc.),

(1) Overwegende dat niet-scherpsmakende pepers (paprika's) in bijlage I bij Verordening (EG) nr. 2200/96 zijn opgenomen als producten waarvoor normen moeten worden vastgesteld; dat Verordening (EEG) nr. 79/88 van de Commissie van 13 januar 1988 tot vaststelling van kwaliteitsnonnen voor kropsla, krulandijvie en andijvie en voor niet-scherpsmakende pepers(3), laatstelijk gewijzígd bij Verordening (EG) nr. 888/97(4), reeds meermalen is gewijzigd, waardoor de juridische duidelijkheid niet langer is gewaarborgd;

Overwegende dat bij de verordeningen tot vaststelling van normen voor prei, aubergines, courgettes, tomaten, uien, witloof, kersen, aardbeien, spruiten, sla, krulandijvie en andijvie, komkommers, citrusvruchten en tafelappelen en -peren, een categorie III is vastgesteld; dat deze categorie III slechts uitzonderlijk wordt toegepast en dat zij geen belang meer heeft voor de sector verse groenten en fruit; dat in de internationale normen een dergelijke categorie niet voorkomt en dat zij bijgevolg, ter vereenvoudiging, ook uit de communautaire normen moet worden geschrapt;

Whereas a class III was established by the Regulations laying down standards for leeks, aubergines, courgettes, tomatoes, onions, witloof chicory, cherries, strawberries, Brussels sprouts, table grapes, lettuces, curled-leaved and broad-leaved (Batavian) endives, cucumbers, citrus fruit and dessert apples and pears; whereas that class III was applicable only in exceptional situations and whereas it has lost its importance for the fresh fruit and vegetables sector; whereas the international standards make no provision for such a category and whereas, for the sake of simplification, it should be removed from the Community standards;

In bijlage I bij Richtlijn 90/642/EEG in categorie "2. Groenten, vers of ongekookt, bevroren of gedroogd, v) Bladgroenten en verse kruiden, a) Sla en dergelijke" worden de vermeldingen "Bladeren en stengels van koolsoorten" en "Rucola" toegevoegd tussen de vermeldingen "Andijvie" en "Andere".

In Annex I to Directive 90/642/EEC in the category "2. Vegetables, fresh or uncooked, frozen or dry, (v) Leaf vegetables and fresh herbs, (a) Lettuce and similar", the entries "leaves and stems of brassica" and "ruccola" are added between the entries "Scarole" and "others".
