The annual maximum amount per hectare for the maintenance and preservation of rubble walls in Malta provided for in the second subparagraph of Article 33m(2) of Regulation (EC) No 1257/1999 is indicated in Annex I, point A.

In 2006, the Dutch government pledged €33m to this centre, where Wageningen University researchers and the business community work in consultation with the government.

(287) As to prices, between 2000 and 2001, the average unit price of the product concerned on the Community market fell from 302 to 239 EUR/tonne. The average unit price of the like product fell from 359 to 343 EUR/tonne. In this transparent market, price undercutting had a decisive impact. The effect of the fall in the average unit price of the like product alone on the Community producers'Community sales revenue would have been a reduction of about 4,5% (EUR 33m) in 2001. Taking account of the simultaneous fall in sales volume the actual fall in turnover in the Community was EUR 89m. Fixed costs represent a material proportion of the Community producers'overheads. Therefore, the reduction in sales revenues created a disproportionately higher fall in profits, and, in 2001, the Community producers made a loss of -1,6%. This fall in prices and profitability furthermore must be seen in the context of a number of plant closures and ensuing reduction in employment.

(287) Wat prijzen betreft: van 2000 op 2001 daalde de gemiddelde prijs van de ingevoerde producten op de EG-markt van 302 tot 239 EUR/ton. De gemiddelde prijs van het soortgelijke EG-product daalde van 359 tot 343 EUR/ton. Op deze transparante markt was de prijsonderbieding van doorslaggevend belang. Alleen al door de daling van de gemiddelde prijs van het EG-product in de Gemeenschap zouden de EG-producenten 4,5% (33m EUR) minder hebben verdiend in 2001. Indien ook nog rekening wordt gehouden met de gelijktijdige daling van de omvang van de verkoop, dan komt dit neer op een daling van de omzet in de Gemeenschap met 89m EUR. Daar de vaste kosten een groot deel uitmaken van de algemene kosten, leidde de daling van de verkoop tot een nog grotere daling van de winst. Zo daalde de winstgevendheid van de EG-producenten in 2001 tot -1,6%. Deze daling van prijzen en winstgevendheid moet voorts worden bezien tegen de achtergrond van een aantal fabriekssluitingen en het daaruit voortvloeiende verlies van arbeidsplaatsen.
