The name "Oscypek" fulfils the conditions set out in Article 2(2) of Council Regulation (EC) No 510/2006. Etymologically connected with the production process, the name "Oscypek" can be derived from two words — from the verb oszczypywać, meaning "to pinch repeatedly" in the sense of beating (stage 6 of the production process) and from oszczypek, a diminutive form of oszczep, meaning "javelin", in reference to the characteristic shape of the cheese. "Oscypek" is closely linked to the area described in point 4.3. This is confirmed by numerous references in the literature, the natural ties to the area and the skills of the local producers.

Az "Oscypek" megnevezés megfelel az 510/2006/EK rendelet 2. cikkének (2) bekezdésében előírt követelményeknek. Az elnevezés eredete egyrészt az előállítási folyamat egyik lépésére utal, másrészt két tőre, az oszczypywać (az előállítás 6. lépésében végzett aprítás) vagy az oszczypek (lándzsahegy – a sajt jellegzetes alakja) szavakra vezethető vissza. Az elnevezés szorosan kapcsolódik a 4.3. pontban említett régióhoz. A kapcsolatot irodalmi adatok, természetes tényezők és a helyi termelők szaktudása igazolják.

The word ‘brandy’ has a very clear etymological origin (brand wijn, vino quemado) and there is a need for consistency with the definition of brandy contained in the proposal for a Regulation, which leaves no room for doubt regarding the fact that the word should be used exclusively in respect of spirit drinks produced entirely from wine spirits or wine distillates.
