The border counties have suffered more than any other region in Ireland and possible more commercially than Northern Ireland, remembering that the national plan was in place prior to the cessation of violence.

J'aurais aimé que la directive fût plus ambitieuse, qu'elle accordât plus d'importance à la production décentrée, qu'elle contînt quelque élément plus ambitieux en termes de concurrence en faveur, notamment, des zones et des associations de petites et moyennes entreprises.

I would have preferred the directive to be more ambitious, to provide more space for decentralized production, to introduce some more ambitious elements of competition promoting the districts and associations of small and medium-sized enterprises in particular.

It is an absolute disgrace the way that the RUC, the British army, the British Government and the Orange Order have decided that they are definitely going to make the six counties in the north-east of Ireland a Protestant State, an Orange State, for an Orange people, and forget about the human and civil rights of the nationalists and Catholics who are living there.

J'ai participé à l'organisation de la première manifestation de protestation à Londres contre le coup d'état de 1973 et je n'ai jamais oublié les récits bouleversants de souffrances, de disparitions, de proches sauvagement assassinés que contèrent certains de ceux qui s'étaient réfugiés en Grande-Bretagne.
