a method of supplying in vitro a wild-type apc gene function to a cell which has lost said function by virtue of a mutation in an apc gene, comprising as alternative steps: introducing a wild-type apc gene into a cell which has lost said gene function such that said wild-type apc gene is expressed in the cell, in particular wherein the wild-type apc gene introduced recombines with the endogenous mutant apc gene present in the cell by a double recombination event to correct the apc gene mutation; introducing a portion of a wild-type apc gene into a cell which has lost said gene function such that said portion is expressed in the cell, said portion encoding a part of the apc protein which is required for non-neoplastic growth of said cell; applying of human wild-type apc protein to a cell which has lost wild-type apc function.
