(1) Yhdistyneiden Kansakuntien turvallisuusneuvosto hyväksyi 15 päivänä toukokuuta 2008 päätöslauselman 1814 (2008), jossa se pyysi valtioita ja alueellisia järjestöjä toteuttamaan toimenpiteitä Somaliaan lähetetyn humanitaarisen avun kuljettamiseen ja perille toimittamiseen sekä Yhdistyneiden Kansakuntien valtuuttamiin toimiin osallistuvien alusten suojelemiseksi.
