The area of production of La Rioja cauliflowers enjoys long summers, mild winters sheltered from strong winds by the fact that the valley lies between mountains, and relatively high humidity owing to the influence of the Ebro and Cidacos rivers.

W piśmie z dnia 10 lipca 2003 r. Hiszpania udzieliła Komisji odpowiedzi na jej żądanie dotyczące wyjaśnienia w zakresie prawidłowego opisu hiszpańskich stref kontynentalnych zatwierdzonych w załączniku I, w następstwie zatwierdzenia rzeki Ebro na mocy decyzji 2003/458/WE.

Spain has by letter of 10 July 2003 responded to the request from the Commission for a clarification of the correct description of the Spanish continental zones approved in Annex I following the approval of the river Ebro by Decision 2003/458/EC.

-Zasolenie: oznacza nagromadzenie w glebie soli rozpuszczalnych, przede wszystkim sodu, magnezu i wapnia. Problem ten dotyczy około 3,8 mln ha w Europie. Regiony najbardziej dotknięte to Kampania we Włoszech, dolina rzeki Ebro w Hiszpanii i Wielka Nizina Węgierska, lecz także niektóre regiony Grecji, Portugalii, Francji, Słowacji i Austrii.

· Salinisation is the accumulation in soils of soluble salts mainly of sodium, magnesium, and calcium. It affects around 3.8 million ha in Europe. Most affected are Campania in Italy, the Ebro Valley in Spain, and the Great Alföld in Hungary, but also areas in Greece, Portugal, France, Slovakia and Austria.

(5) W piśmie z dnia 2 czerwca 2003 r. Niemcy poinformowały Komisję o potrzebie uaktualnienia załącznika II, z powodu zamknięcia niektórych gospodarstw lub zmiany ich właścicieli. W piśmie z dnia 10 lipca 2003 r. Hiszpania udzieliła Komisji odpowiedzi na jej żądanie dotyczące wyjaśnienia w zakresie prawidłowego opisu hiszpańskich stref kontynentalnych zatwierdzonych w załączniku I, w następstwie zatwierdzenia rzeki Ebro na mocy decyzji 2003/458/WE.

(5) Germany has by letter of 2 June 2003 informed the Commission about the need for updating Annex II due to closing down or changes of owners of some farms. Spain has by letter of 10 July 2003 responded to the request from the Commission for a clarification of the correct description of the Spanish continental zones approved in Annex I following the approval of the river Ebro by Decision 2003/458/EC.
