Senhor Presidente, visto o assunto ainda estar a ser estudado no Conselho, gostaria de pedir que o Conselho tomasse em consideração o facto de o painel de peritos que efectuou a avaliação da CITES, se ter pronunciado acerca da população de elefantes no Botswana, na Namíbia e no Zimbabué, e de os peritos terem comunicado que a população não está ameaçada de extinção mas antes, em crescimento e, no caso concreto de um dos países, o painel comunicou o seguinte: It is very probable that the proposal will have a positive effect on elephant conservation and community conservation and development programmes in the country .
