And it came to pass that they took him and bound him, and scourged his skin with faggots, yea, even unto death.

И было так, что они взяли его и связали, и обжигали ему кожу зажженными лучинами, да, на смерть ему.

And again, he saith that thou shalt be as a stalk, even as a dry stalk of the field, which is run over by the beasts and trodden under foot.

И он говорит еще, что ты будешь подобен засохшему стеблю полевому, по которому пробежали животные и растоптали копытами.

Now ye know that Moses was commanded of the Lord to do that great work; and ye know that by his word the waters of the Red Sea were divided hither and thither, and they passed through on dry ground.

И ныне вы знаете, что Господь повелел Моисею исполнить это великое дело, и знаете, что, по слову Моисея, воды Красного моря расступились надвое, и они прошли сухим путем.

For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of dry ground; he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him there is no beauty that we should desire him.

Ибо Он вырастет пред Ним, как молодой росток и как отпрыск от корня из сухой земли; нет в Нем ни вида, ни величия; и когда мы увидим Его, не будет в Нем миловидности, которая привлекала бы нас к Нему.

And the Lord shall utterly destroy the tongue of the Egyptian sea; and with his mighty wind he shall shake his hand over the river, and shall smite it in the seven streams, and make men go over dry shod.

И Господь совершенно разрушит залив моря Египетского, и отрясет руку Свою над рекою, в сильном ветре своем, и разобьет ее на семь ручьев, так что заставит людей насухо ее.

And there could be no light, because of the darkness, neither candles, neither torches; neither could there be fire kindled with their fine and exceedingly dry wood, so that there could not be any light at all;

И в этой тьме невозможно было иметь ни света, ни свечей, ни светильников; и нельзя было зажечь огня имевшимся у них хорошим и очень сухим деревом, так что совершенно не было никакого света;

Now the heads of the Lamanites were shorn; and they were naked, save it were skin which was girded about their loins, and also their armor, which was girded about them, and their bows, and their arrows, and their stones, and their slings, and so forth.

Головы же у Ламанийцев были все острижены; и ходили они голыми, опоясанные лишь кожею по своим бедрам и вокруг себя своей броней, неся с собой луки, стрелы, камни, пращи и т.д.

Therefore let us go up; let us be strong like unto Moses; for he truly spake unto the waters of the Red Sea and they divided hither and thither, and our fathers came through, out of captivity, on dry ground, and the armies of Pharaoh did follow and were drowned in the waters of the Red Sea.

И потому - пойдем! Будем сильны подобно Моисею, ибо он истинно повелел водам Красного моря, и они разделились надвое, и наши отцы прошли из плена сухим путем, а воинство Фараоново, преследовавшее их, было потоплено в водах Красного моря.

Now the army of Zerahemnah was not prepared with any such thing; they had only their swords and their cimeters, their bows and their arrows, their stones and their slings; and they were naked, save it were a skin which was girded about their loins; yea, all were naked, save it were the Zoramites and the Amalekites;

Войско Зерагемнаха не было вооружено не чем подобным; у них имелись только мечи и сабли, луки и стрелы и их пращи с камнями; сами они были наги и только их бедра были покрыты кожей; да, все, кроме Зорамийцев и Амалекитян, были наги.

Nevertheless, they did find a land which had been peopled; yea, a land which was covered with dry bones; yea, a land which had been peopled and which had been destroyed; and they, having supposed it to be the land of Zarahemla, returned to the land of Nephi, having arrived in the borders of the land not many days before the coming of Ammon.

Однако они нашли землю, которая когда-то была населена народом; да, землю, которая была покрыта сухими костями; да, землю, весь народ которой был истреблен. Думая, что это была земля Зарагемля, они возвратились в землю Нефиеву за несколько дней до прихода туда Аммона.
