2.5 calls for a substantial increase in the INTI programme so that local and regional authorities can take part in a greater number of EU-funded transnational projects dealing with the integration of migrants;

2.15 stresses the importance of implementing financial instruments to enable decentralised cooperation on immigration, and of continued support for local and regional efforts to promote integration through the EU Structural Funds and initiatives such as Equal and Urban. In this connection, particular attention should be focused on ongoing efforts within the framework of the new INTI pilot project, which is designed to support integration-related dialogue, networks and cooperation at EU level;

2.15 destaca la importancia de que se pongan en marcha instrumentos financieros destinados a la cooperación descentralizada en materia de inmigración y de que se siga respaldando el trabajo realizado a nivel local y regional para fomentar la integración por medio de los fondos estructurales de la UE y de iniciativas como Equal y Urban. 1.15 emphasises the pivotal regional dimension in the EU immigration and integration policies and believes that this is an important area of debate. The regional dimension is a crucial one as some EU regions are losing population and suffering from severe skills shortages while other regions have rapidly growing populations with pressures on local services and affordable housing; believes that there is much work to bedone in developing the regional and local dimension of migration particularly in the area of integration. Currently, this is being developed through the INTI programme. In 2004, the programme was allocated EUR 6 million but 158 grant applications were received requesting total grants of EUR 42.58 million. The Committee calls for a substantial increase in the funding of this programme for the period 2007-2013;

1.15 Hace hincapié en que la dimensión regional reviste un carácter fundamental en las políticas de inmigración e integración de la UE, y considera que se trata de un tema de debate de gran importancia. La dimensión regional es fundamental ya que, mientras algunas regiones de la UE pierden población y sufren una grave carencia de trabajadores cualificados, otras registran un rápido crecimiento demográfico, con la consiguiente presión que ello supone para los servicios locales y el precio de la vivienda. Estima que aún queda mucho por hacer para desarrollar la dimensión local y regional de la inmigración, en particular en el ámbito de la integración. En la actualidad, este trabajo se lleva a cabo bajo el Programa INTI. En 2004, a este programa se le asignaron 6 millones de euros, pero se recibieron 158 solicitudes de becas cuya suma total ascendía a 42,58 millones de euros. Solicita un incremento sustancial de la financiación de este programa para el periodo 2007–2013.
