English

shake off the dirt that is on your feet: This gesture signified that the disciples disclaimed responsibility for the consequences that would come from God. A similar expression occurs at Mt 10:14; Lu 9:5. Mark and Luke add the expression for a witness to [or, “against”] them. Paul and Barnabas applied this instruction in Pisidian Antioch (Ac 13:51), and when Paul did something similar in Corinth by shaking out his garments, he added the explanatory words: “Let your blood be on your own heads. I am clean.” (Ac 18:6) Such gestures may already have been familiar to the disciples; pious Jews who had traveled through Gentile country would shake what they perceived to be unclean dust off their sandals before reentering Jewish territory. However, Jesus evidently had a different meaning in mind when giving these instructions to his disciples.

Alexander Graham Bell is the inventor of the telephone. In 1878 he made the first phone call. Telephones have not only come a long way, but may one day be completely obsolete. Motorola introduced some of the first cellphones to the public during the 1980s. These cellphones were completely unlike the cell phones of today since they were not at all compact nor by any means cost effective. Some of these cellphones cost as much as $4,000, and weighed over 2 pounds! The first smartphone was developed by IBM and BellSouth, which came out to the public in 1993. Althought basic compared to today’s standards “Simon” had a touch screen that was capable of accessing email and sending faxes. Smartphones are major extensions on normal cellphones. Cellphones can make phone calls and even some have video recording capabilities but they do not have GPS capabilities along with a whole array of other applications. Text messaging is one of the biggest forms of communication today, especially among the younger folks. Smartphones capability does not end at the Internet access, or at document editing. Smartphones also have the ability to interpret and decipher information like that from a quick response code that may be on a product’s packaging. Smartphone users can download QR code scanners as well as other applications so they have the ability to read the information embedded in the QR code that may take them to a website, a coupon, or even a social media site. Smartphones are advancing at a very quick pace and some have the ability to talk to you, answer questions, turn off your lights when you are not there, open doors, and even watch movies.

English

You are a master of logic, but you could make a poor decision today if you rely on your head and not your heart. Your thoughts are bent out of shape by your desires now, making it pointless to employ any form of rationalization. Instead, let your emotions take you on the scenic route; you might not arrive at your destination on time, but you will experience more joy on the ride. It may sound silly, but happy feelings will attract happy circumstances

English

Lord of Peace, we come to You in our need Create in us an awareness of the massive forces of violence and terrorism that threaten our world today. Grant us a sense of urgency to activate the forces of goodness, of justice, of love and of peace in our communities. Where there is armed conflict, let us stretch out our arms to our brothers and sisters. Where there is abundance and luxury, let there be simple lifestyle and sharing. Where there is poverty and misery, let there be dignified living and constant striving for just structures. Where there is selfish ambition, let there be humble service. Where there is injustice, let there be humble atonement. Where there is despair, let there be hope in the Good News. Where there are wounds of division, let there be unity and wholeness. Where there are lies and deceit, let your Truth set us all of us free. Where there are thoughts of vengeance, let there be healing and forgiveness. Help us to be committed to the Gospel of peace. In spite of our differences in faith traditions and ethnic roots, Teach us Your spirit of mercy and compassion. For it is only in loving imitation of you, Lord of Peace, that we can discover the healing springs of life that will bring about new birth to our earth a new era of peace and a new harmony among all Forever and ever. Amen.
