केवल कुरान को पढ़ने से हम उन तथ्यों का विकास नहीं समझ पाते जिनका विकास पुस्तक के दायरे से बाहर हुआ है . संक्षेप में कुरान कोई इतिहास की पुस्तक नहीं है . इतिहास की पुस्तक का अपना अलग ही महत्व होता है . जो भी उग्रवादी इस्लाम और उसके द्वारा प्रेरित हिंसा का अध्ययन करना चाहता है उसे वहाबी आंदोलन , खोमैनी क्रांति और अलकायदा को समझना चाहिए . मुस्लविम धर्म शास्त्र से अधिक मुस्लिम इतिहास इस बात की व्याख्या कर सकता है कि हम यहाँ तक कैसे पहुँचे और आगे क्या होने वाला है .
