ኤልሳቤጥም መካን ነበረችና ልጅ አልነበራቸውም፤ ሁለቱም በዕድሜያቸው አርጅተው ነበር።

and zacharias said unto the angel, whereby shall i know this? for i am an old man, and my wife well stricken in years.
ዘካርያስም መልአኩን። እኔ ሽማግሌ ነኝ ምስቴም በዕድሜዋ አርጅታለችና ይህን በምን አውቃለሁ? አለው።

shall i bear a child now that i am an old woman and my husband is well advanced in years . this is indeed strange ! '
( እርሷም ) ዋልኝ ! እኔ አሮጊት ይህም ባሌ ሽማግሌ ሆኖ ሳለ እወልዳለሁን ይህ በእርግጥ አስደናቂ ነገር ነው አለች ፡ ፡

' how shall i have a son , lord ' he asked , ' when my wife is barren , and i am advanced in years '
« ጌታዬ ሆይ ! ሚስቴ መካን የነበረች ስትኾን እኔም ከእርጅና ድርቀትን በእርግጥ የደረስኩ ስኾን እንዴት ልጅ ይኖረኛል ! » አለ ፡ ፡

shall i bear ( a child ) when i am old woman and my husband is advanced in years ? this is indeed a strange thing '
( እርሷም ) ዋልኝ ! እኔ አሮጊት ይህም ባሌ ሽማግሌ ሆኖ ሳለ እወልዳለሁን ይህ በእርግጥ አስደናቂ ነገር ነው አለች ፡ ፡

no female conceives , or delivers , except with his knowledge . no living thing advances in years , or its life is shortened , except it be in a record .
አላህም ከዐፈር ፣ ከዚያም ከፍትወት ጠብታ ፈጠራችሁ ፡ ፡ ከዚያም ጎሳዎች አደረጋችሁ ፡ ፡ ሴትም አታረግዝም አትወልድምም በዕውቀቱ ቢኾን እንጂ ፡ ፡ ዕድሜው ከሚረዘምም አንድም አይረዘምም ከዕድሜውም አይጎደልም በመጽሐፉ ውስጥ ያለ ቢኾን እንጂ ፡ ፡ ይህ በአላህ ላይ ገር ነው ፡ ፡

they said : ' mighty prince , his father is old , advanced in years , take one of us instead of him . we can see you are amongst the gooddoers '
አንተ የተከበርከው ሆይ ! « ለእርሱ በእርግጥ ታላቅ ሽማግሌ አባት አለው ፡ ፡ ስለዚህ በእርሱ ስፍራ አንደኛችንን ያዝ ፡ ፡ እኛ ከመልካም ሠሪዎች ሆነህ እናይሃለንና » አሉት ፡ ፡

and that you be dutiful to your parents . if one of them or both of them attain old age in your life , say not to them a word of disrespect , nor shout at them but address them in terms of honour .
ጌታህም ( እንዲህ ሲል ) አዘዘ ፡ - እርሱን እንጂ ሌላን አትገዙ ፡ ፡ በወላጆቻችሁም መልካምን ሥሩ ፡ ፡ በአንተ ዘንድ ኾነው አንዳቸው ወይም ሁለታቸው እርጅናን ቢደርሱ ፎህ አትበላቸው ፡ ፡ አትገላምጣቸውም ፡ ፡ ለእነርሱም መልካምን ቃል ተናገራቸው ፡ ፡

thy lord hath decreed that ye worship none but him , and that ye be kind to parents . whether one or both of them attain old age in thy life , say not to them a word of contempt , nor repel them , but address them in terms of honour .
ጌታህም ( እንዲህ ሲል ) አዘዘ ፡ - እርሱን እንጂ ሌላን አትገዙ ፡ ፡ በወላጆቻችሁም መልካምን ሥሩ ፡ ፡ በአንተ ዘንድ ኾነው አንዳቸው ወይም ሁለታቸው እርጅናን ቢደርሱ ፎህ አትበላቸው ፡ ፡ አትገላምጣቸውም ፡ ፡ ለእነርሱም መልካምን ቃል ተናገራቸው ፡ ፡
