one year scheme to regenerate welsh-medium sunday schools in wales (it is estimated that there around 800). in 2007, there was substantial investment in:*a series of completely original welsh textbooks (for the first time) with one published every month for the next 5 years;*guidance for leaders and volunteers to raise the standard of teaching. the aim of this scheme is to improve the quality/work of the sundays chools, offer welsh-medium facilities with modern resources and a safe environment for children, create a national database of welsh-medium sunday schools. in order to achieve this, the project will: employ an officer/officers to promote the two schemes noted above. at present, only 200 sunday schools are taking advantage of the resources; we will be contacting the other 600 to raise awareness/share good practice. our aim is to increase the numbers who attend the sunday schools, offer better experiences for children who are members and trigger new welsh-medium resources. the sunday school is the only place for children to meet in many parts of wales, and welsh-medium sunday schools have the highest number of members nationally amongst organisations in wales (over 10,000). this scheme can ensure that this continues and is developed, thereby ensuring that the backbone of communities in wales remains welsh. see our action plan.
