ef þetta er valið, þá mun tab lykillinn annað hvort draga inn viðkomandi línu eða fara í næstu inndráttarstaðsetningu. ef bendillinn er staðsettur á eða fyrir framan fyrsta staf línu sem ekki sé bil, eða þegar um valinn texta er að ræða, verður sú lína dregin inn um þann fjölda stafabila sem skilgreindur er í breidd innsetningar. ef bendillinn er staðsettur eftir fyrsta staf línu sem ekki sé bil og ekki er um valinn texta að ræða, verður bætt inn auðum bilum þannig að næsta inndráttarstigi sé náð: ef valið setja bil í stað tab- merkja í hlutanum ritun er virkt, þá eru bil sett inn; annars eru notuð tab- inndráttarmerki.
