in reply to a question from the committee, the ministry of steel informed that ‘although domestic consumption of iron ore by the domestic industries have shown an increasing trend since 2004-2005, the production of iron ore has always been much higher than the domestic consumption, due to export-led production of iron ore in the country. however, to improve availability of iron ore for the domestic iron and steel industry and to conserve iron ore for future long term domestic requirement, fiscal measures have been taken to discourage export of iron ore and presently, export duty at the rate of 30 % ad valorem is levied on all varieties of iron ore (except pellets), which has resulted in significant decrease in exports during 2011-2012 and the current year’ (point 2.7 on page 14).
w odpowiedzi na pytanie komitetu, ministerstwo ds. stali poinformowało, że „chociaż krajowa konsumpcja rudy żelaza przez przemysł krajowy wykazała rosnącą tendencję od okresu 2004–2005, produkcja rudy żelaza zawsze była dużo wyższa od krajowej konsumpcji z uwagi na produkcję rudy żelaza w indiach przeznaczoną na wywóz. aby jednak poprawić dostępność rudy żelaza dla krajowego przemysłu żelaza i stali oraz by zachować rudę żelaza dla przyszłych długoterminowych potrzeb krajowych, podjęto działania fiskalne, by zniechęcić do wywozu rudy żelaza i w chwili obecnej pobierane jest cło eksportowe w wysokości 30 % ad valorem od wszystkich rodzajów rudy żelaza (z wyjątkiem granulek), co doprowadziło do znacznego spadku wywozu tego towaru w okresie 2011–2012 i w roku obecnym” (pkt 2.7 na s. 14).
