after we had destroyed the earlier generations we bestowed the book on moses - a source of enlightenment for people and a guidance and mercy -- that they may take heed.

surely there hath come unto you enlightenment from your lord. whosoever then shall see shall do so for his own soul, and whosoever blindeth himself shall do so to his own hurt. and say thou i am not over you a guardian.
“แท้จริงบรรดาหลักฐานจากพระเจ้าของพวกเจ้านั้นได้มายังพวกเจ้าแล้ว ดังนั้น ผู้ใดมองเห็น ก็ย่อมได้แก่ตัวของเขา และผู้ใดมองไม่เห็น ก็ย่อมเป็นภัยแก่ตัวของเขา และฉันมิใช่เป็นผู้พิทักษ์รักษาพวกเจ้า

musa said: assuredly thou knowest that none hath sent down these save the lord of the heavens and the earth as an enlightenment; and verily imagine thee, fir'awn, doomed.

and indeed we gave musa (moses), after we had destroyed the generations of old, the scripture [the taurat (torah)] as an enlightenment for mankind, and a guidance and a mercy, that they might remember (or receive admonition).
