[2] []] ઈ. સ. ૧૮૭૭માં આ સોસાયટીમાં રૂ. ૨૭૯૧૦ નું ભંડોળ હતું, જેમાં મુંબઈના પ્રેમચંદ રાયચંદ રૂ. ૧૦,૦૦૦ ની ફાળવણી કરવામાં આવી હતી. આ સોસાયટી દ્વારા ગુજરાતમાં પ્રથમ અખબારની શરૂઆત અમદાવાદમાં કરવામાં આવી હતી. આ એક સાપ્તાહિક વર્તમાન હતું અને દર બુધવારે અમદાવાદથી પ્રકશિત થતું. આને કારણે તે સમયે અમદાવાદથી પ્રકાશીત થતા દરેક સમાચાર પત્રને બુધવારીયા કહેવાતા. હાલમાં હેમાભાઇ સંસ્થામાં સમાવિષ્ટ થયેલ પુસ્તકાલય અને અમદાવાદની પ્રથમ કન્યા શાળા, આ સંસ્થાની સહાયથી સ્થાપિત કરવામાં આવી હતી. તેના દ્વારા ઉપયોગી પુસ્તકો છાપવામાં આવ્યાં હતાં, અને બીજાના પ્રકાશનને નાણાંના અનુદાન દ્વારા મદદ મળી હતી. આ સંસ્થાએ બુદ્ધિપ્રકાશ નામનું માસિક બહાર પાડ્યું. ઈ. સ. ૧૮૭૬ માં તેનું માસિક ૧૨૫૦ પ્રતોનું વેચાણ હતું. આ સામાયિક હજી પ્રકાશિત થાય છે. આ સોસાયટી ગુજરાત અને કાઠિયાવાડના તમામ ભાગોમાં પુસ્તકાલયોને મદદ કરે છે અને શાળાઓને ઇનામ આપે છે. તે પુસ્તકોના વેચાણ અને વિતરણનું કાર્ય કરે છે અને વિવિધ ઉપયોગી વિષયો પર નિબંધો માટે વાર્ષિક ઇનામ આપે છે. મુંબઈના વેપારી, સોરાબજી જમશેદજી જીજીભોય દ્વારા ૧૮૬૪ માં કરવામાં આવેલી રૂ.
