et ait ad illos parabolam istam dicen
and he spake this parable unto them, saying,

et dividetis terram istam vobis per tribus israhe
so shall ye divide this land unto you according to the tribes of israel.

et de manu regis assyriorum eruam te et civitatem istam et protegam ea
and i will deliver thee and this city out of the hand of the king of assyria: and i will defend this city.

sed in loco ad quem transtuli eum ibi morietur et terram istam non videbit ampliu
but he shall die in the place whither they have led him captive, and shall see this land no more.

et protegam civitatem istam ut salvem eam propter me et propter david servum meu
for i will defend this city to save it for mine own sake, and for my servant david's sake.

according to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did nathan speak unto david.

for this city hath been to me as a provocation of mine anger and of my fury from the day that they built it even unto this day; that i should remove it from before my face,

tunc exiit de terra chaldeorum et habitavit in charram et inde postquam mortuus est pater eius transtulit illum in terram istam in qua nunc vos habitati
then came he out of the land of the chaldaeans, and dwelt in charran: and from thence, when his father was dead, he removed him into this land, wherein ye now dwell.

et locuti sunt sacerdotes et prophetae ad principes et ad omnem populum dicentes iudicium mortis est viro huic quia prophetavit adversum civitatem istam sicut audistis auribus vestri
then spake the priests and the prophets unto the princes and to all the people, saying, this man is worthy to die; for he hath prophesied against this city, as ye have heard with your ears.

et dices ad eos haec dicit dominus exercituum sic conteram populum istum et civitatem istam sicut conteritur vas figuli quod non potest ultra instaurari et in thofeth sepelientur eo quod non sit alius locus ad sepeliendu
and shalt say unto them, thus saith the lord of hosts; even so will i break this people and this city, as one breaketh a potter's vessel, that cannot be made whole again: and they shall bury them in tophet, till there be no place to bury.

utinam mortui essemus in aegypto et non in hac vasta solitudine utinam pereamus et non inducat nos dominus in terram istam ne cadamus gladio et uxores ac liberi nostri ducantur captivi nonne melius est reverti in aegyptu
and wherefore hath the lord brought us unto this land, to fall by the sword, that our wives and our children should be a prey? were it not better for us to return into egypt?
