ཤི་བ།

all life ends in death.
གསོན་པའི་མཐའ་ནི་འཆི་བ་ཡིན། །

ཅི་འགའ་ཞིག་ལ་བྱིན་ནམ།

all meetings end in separation; all life ends in death.
ཕྲད་པའི་མཐའ་ནི་འབྲལ་བ་སྟེ། །གསོན་པའི་མཐའ་ནི་འཆི་བ་ཡིན། །

it will perish and after death will not arise again.
ཞིག་པར་འགྱུར་ཏེ་ཤི་བའི་འོག་ཏུ་མི་འབྱུང་ངོ་། །

སྲིད་པའི་རྐྱེན་གྱིས་སྐྱེ་བ། སྐྱེ་བའི་རྐྱེན་གྱིས་རྒ་ཤི་དང་།

so we would sooner die and face our death with him than turn him over.”
ས་བདག་ཅག་འདི་དང་ལྷན་ཅིག་འཆི་བ་དང་དུས་བྱེད་པ་ནི་བླའི། འདི་ཡོངས་སུ་གཏང་བར་ནི་མི་བྱའོ། །

recognition of freedom from desirous attachment, recognition of cessation, recognition of death,
འདོད་ཆགས་དང་བྲལ་བའི་འདུ་ཤེས་དང་། འགོག་པའི་འདུ་ཤེས་དང་། འཆི་བའི་འདུ་ཤེས་དང་།

because Ānanda cared for his kin, on hearing of their death he became choked with tears.
ཚེ་དང་ལྡན་པ་ཀུན་དགའ་བོ་ཉེ་དུ་ལ་མཉེས་གཤིན་པ་ཡིན་པས་དེས་ཉེ་དུ་དང་བྲལ་བ་ཐོས་ནས་མཆི་མས་བརྣངས་ཏེ་འདུག་གོ། །

nāgas are born a natural birth, they die a natural death, they sleep a natural sleep,
རང་བཞིན་གྱིས་སྐྱེ་བ་དང་། རང་བཞིན་གྱིས་འཆི་བ་དང་། རང་བཞིན་གྱིས་ཉལ་བ་དང་།

in a crowd of people destined for death, who laugh and flirt though their dead skin and dead flesh will die,
ཤི་ལྤགས་ཤི་བའི་རྒྱུས་པ་དང་། །འཆིར་འགྱུར་བཞད་གད་འཇོ་སྒེག་གི། །འཆི་བའི་སྐྱེ་བོ་འདུས་པ་ལ།

or gives them a weapon, sends an assassin to them, pressures them, or extols the merits of death to them,
དེ་ལ་མཚོན་བྱིན་ནམ། དེ་ལ་མཚོན་ཐོགས་པ་གཉེར་ཏམ། དེ་འཆིར་བཅུག་གམ། དེ་ལ་འཆི་བའི་བསྔགས་པ་བརྗོད་ཀྱང་རུང་སྟེ།

the cessation of birth arrests aging and death, and sorrow, lamentation, suffering, unhappiness, and strife.
སྐྱེ་བ་འགགས་པས་རྒ་ཤི་དང་། མྱ་ངན་དང་། སྨྲེ་སྔགས་འདོན་པ་དང་། སྡུག་བསྔལ་བ་དང་། ཡིད་མི་བདེ་བ་དང་། འཁྲུག་པ་རྣམས་འགག་སྟེ།

the blessed one declared that if, initiated by that monk’s extolling the merits of death, the time comes that it happens,
དེ་ལ་འཆི་བའི་བསྔགས་པ་བརྗོད་དེ་དེ་ཡང་རྩོམ་པ་དེས་དུས་བྱས་ན།

and i saw the origins of aging and death, the cessation of aging and death, and the path that leads to the cessation of aging and death.
རྒ་ཤི་ཀུན་འབྱུང་བ་དང་། རྒ་ཤི་འགོག་པ་དང་། རྒ་ཤི་འགོག་པར་འགྲོ་བའི་ལམ་མཐོང་སྟེ།

“master,” upatiṣya urged, “if the whole of what little renunciation we have is for ambrosia and the search for ambrosia,
དེས་སྨྲས་པ། མཁན་པོ་བདག་ཅག་ཅུང་ཟད་རབ་ཏུ་ཕྱུང་བ་གང་ལགས་པ་དེ་དག་ཐམས་ཅད་བདུད་རྩི་དོན་དུ་གཉེར་ཞིང་བདུད་རྩི་ཚོལ་བ་ལགས་ན།
