འཁོར་གཡུགས་གཙོག་སྐྱོན།

གལ་ཏེ་ཚ་བའི་དུས་ཡིན་ན་ནི་ཆུ་གྲང་མོས་ཁྲུས་བྱེད་དུ་གཞུག་གོ། །

after a time, the saṅgha elder lifted his cup of water.
ཇི་ཙམ་ན་དགེ་འདུན་གྱི་གནས་བརྟན་དེས་ཆུ་ཁ་ཕོར་དུ་བླུགས་ནས་

and he thought, “while we drink water as cold as this,
དེས་བསམས་པ། བདག་ཅག་ནི་ཆུ་ཤིན་ཏུ་གྲང་མོ་འདི་ལྟ་བུ་འཐུང་ན།

he rubbed ghee and oil into his skin and took refreshing baths in warm water.
ཞུན་མར་དང་། འབྲུ་མར་དག་གིས་སྐུ་དག་ཀྱང་སྐུད་པར་མཛད། ཆུ་དྲོན་པོས་ཀྱང་སྐུ་བསིལ་བར་མཛད་ཅིང་གྲོང་སྡེ་

drinking water, paying reverence to a stūpa in the vicinity of the monastery,
ཆུ་བཏུང་བ་དང་། ཉེ་འཁོར་དང་བཅས་པའི་གཙུག་ལག་ཁང་དུ་མཆོད་རྟེན་ལ་ཕྱག་བྱ་བ་དང་།

the postulant should then bathe. if the weather is cold, he may bathe with warm water.
དེའི་འོག་ཏུ་ཁྲུས་བྱེད་དུ་གཞུག་སྟེ། གལ་ཏེ་རེ་ཞིག་གྲང་བའི་དུས་ཡིན་ན་ནི་ཆུ་དྲོན་པོས་ཁྲུས་བྱེད་དུ་གཞུག་གོ། །

they do not ripen upon the element of water, upon the element of fire, nor upon the element of wind.
ཆུའི་ཁམས་ལ་མི་འགྱུར། མེའི་ཁམས་ལ་མི་འགྱུར། རླུང་གི་ཁམས་ལ་མི་འགྱུར་གྱི།

saṅgharakṣita sprinkled water on, swept, and applied fresh cow dung to the dirt floor of the thatched hut.
ཚེ་དང་ལྡན་པ་དགེ་འདུན་འཚོས་སྤྱིལ་བུ་དེ་ཆག་ཆག་བཏབ། ཕྱག་དར་བྱས། བ་ལང་གི་ལྕི་བ་སར་པས་བྱུག་པ་བྱས་སོ། །

after a time, the saṅgha elder lifted his cup of water. it felt extremely cold to the touch of the tip of his fingers,
ཇི་ཙམ་ན་དགེ་འདུན་གྱི་གནས་བརྟན་དེས་ཆུ་ཁ་ཕོར་དུ་བླངས་ནས་སོར་མོའི་རྩེ་མོས་རེག་ན་ཤིན་ཏུ་གྲངས་ནས་

filled the folds of his skirt with the dazzling colors of divine blue lotus flowers, lotuses, water lilies, and white lotuses,
ལྷའི་ཨུཏྤལ་དང་། པད་མ་དང་། ཀུ་མུ་ད་དང་། པད་མ་དཀར་པོ་དག་གིས་ཐུ་བ་བཀང་སྟེ། ཁ་དོག་ཤིན་ཏུ་འདས་པས་

with but a week’s worth of hair and beard, alms bowl and water pitcher in hand. having completed his approach to monkhood,
སྐྲ་དང་ཁ་སྤུ་ཞག་བདུན་སྐྱེས་པ་ཙམ་དང་། ལག་པ་ན་ལྷུང་བཟེད་དང་བྱ་མ་བུམ་ཐོགས་ཤིང་དགེ་སློང་བསྙེན་པར་རྫོགས་ནས་

“son, i have placed a chamber pot, water, and fresh earth cover there. defecate in that.”
དེས་སྨྲས་པ། བུ་འདི་ཉིད་དུ་ཁོ་མོས་གྱོ་མོ་དང་། ཆུ་དང་། ས་བཞག་གིས་འདི་ཉིད་དུ་བཤང་བ་བྱོས་ཤིག །

the body’s fluids recede into water, the body’s heat recedes into fire, and the body’s vital energies recede into wind.
ཆུའི་ལུས་ནི་ཆུའི། མེའི་ལུས་ནི་མེའི། རླུང་གི་ལུས་ནི་རླུང་གི་བག་ལ་ཞ་བར་འགྱུར་རོ། །

she arranged a bed for her son in the house, along with two clay chamber pots, water, and fresh earth cover, and installed her son in the house, saying,
དེས་ཁྱེའུ་དེ་ཁྱིམ་གྱི་ནང་དུ་མལ་བཅས་ཏེ་གྱོ་མོ་གཉིས་དང་། ཆུ་དང་། ས་དག་བཞག་ནས་ཁྱིམ་དེར་བཅུག་སྟེ།

the tracks lead to the water’s edge and end. none turns back. like black marks made by a hasty pen on a new white page, the hoof prints write a record on the snow: the record of how a horse crossed the plain at a steady trot until he turned or was turned down the sloping bank of the river. there he faltered, tried to wheel, fought with the bit, and finally, driven by his rider’s knees and flailing feet, went, with unwilling hooves that plowed long scars in the snow, to the water’s edge and beyond
རྨིག་རྗེས་ཤིག་ཤོག་དཀར་གྱི་སྟེང་དུ་འཚབ་འཚུབ་ཀྱིས་བྲིས་པའི་རི་མོ་ལྟར་ཐད་ཀར་ཆུ་འགྲམ་དུ་འཐེན་འདུག་ལ། ཕྱིར་འཁོར་པའི་རྗེས་གང་དུ་ཡང་མཐོང་རྒྱུ་མི་འདུག། སྐྱ་མི་དེས་ཁ་བའི་ནང་དུ་ཕབ་པའི་རྨིག་རྗེས་ལས་དགོང་མོ་དེར་བྱུང་བའི་གནས་ཚུལ་དག་ཆད་ལྷག་མེད་པར་གངས་ནང་དུ་འཁོད་འདུག། སྐྱ་མི་དེས་ཐང་ཆེན་ཞིག་འཕྲེད་གཅོད་བྱས་ནས་འདུར་མ་རྒྱུག་གིས་ཆུ་འགྲམ་དུ་སླེབས་སྐབས། རྟས་སྲབ་ཀྱི་ཁ་ལྕགས་སོས་ལྡམ་ནས་ཚམ་ཚོམ་བྱེད་པ་དང་ཕྱིར་འཁོར་རྩིས་ཀྱིས་ཆུ་ཁར་སྐོར་བ་འགའ་བརྒྱབ་ཀྱང་། རྟ་ཐོག་གི་མི་དེས་ལྕག་གིས་བཀྲབ་པ་ལྟར་ཤེད་ཀྱིས་འོབ་བརྡབས་དྲག་པོ་བྱས་པས། ཆུ་འགྲམ་གྱི་ཁ་བའི་ནང་དུ་རྩབ་ཧྲལ་གྱི་རྨིག་རྗེས་འགའ་བཀོད་དེ་མི་འདོད་བཞིན་དུ་ཆུ་ནང་དུ་མཆོངས་སོང་།
