il nome pare derivi dal greco (sparviero, falcone) e questa ipotesi sarebbe avvalorata dal fatto che, ancora oggi, nella zona nidificano vari falchi, fra i quali anche alcuni esemplari di pellegrini.<br><br>appena superata punta campanella ed entrati, quindi, nel golfo di salerno, ci si trova davanti un grosso <b>faraglione</b>, alto oltre dieci metri, comunemente conosciuto come “scuoglio d’a campanella”.<br><br>subito dopo, la parete rocciosa a strapiombo forma una rientranza e, nella parte più interna di questa, è ben visibile una stretta fenditura, alta quasi quanto la falesia stessa.<br>fra le due pareti calcaree esistono ancora i resti di una scalinata costruita più di duemila anni fa per collegare la piattaforma rocciosa che si trova quasi a livello del mare con il tempio dedicato alla dea minerva.<br><br>ai piedi della scala, sulle rocce, si apre la <b>grotta salara</b>, oggi detta anche <b>grotta delle sirene</b> o della <b>campanella</b>.
