འདི་ཆོས་གོས་བླ་གོས་སུ་བྱིན་གྱིས་བརླབ་བོ།
please bless this dharma robe as an upper robe.”

དེའི་འོག་ཏུ་ཆོས་གོས་བླ་གོས་བཟུང་ནས་དེས་
after that, he takes the upper robe in his hands

བླ་མ་མཁྱེན། བོད་ཀྱི་གཏམ་རྒྱུད་ཅིག་གི་སྐྱེ་མཆེད
the lama knows, a tibetan legend is born

ལྷ་བདག་ལ་བླ་མ་ལས་ཡི་གེ་ཉུང་ཤས་ཤིག་བླངས་པ་མཆིས་ཏེ།
“your majesty, from my guru i have received a few teachings.

གཞོན་ནུ་གཟུགས་ཅན་སྙིང་པོས་ཕྱོགས་བཞིར་ཕོ་ཉ་རྟ་པ་དག་བཀྱེ་སྟེ།
prince bimbisāra sent mounted emissaries in the four directions with the message,

ཇི་ཙམ་ན་ས་ལའི་དགོན་པ་ཞིག་ན་གཙུག་ལག་ཁང་རྟ་བབས་མཐོན་པོ་དང་ལྡན་པ།
after a time, he saw, in a forest of śāla trees, a monastery with a high gate, skylights, and latticed windows

དེ་ནས་ཀུན་དུ་རྒྱུ་ཉེ་རྒྱལ་གྱིས་ཚེ་དང་ལྡན་པ་རྟ་ཐུལ་ལ་འདི་སྐད་ཅེས་སྨྲས་སོ། །
upatiṣya asked this of aśvajit:

ཆོམ་རྐུན་དེ་དག་གིས་ཀྱང་བྱ་མ་རྟ་བཙུགས་ཏེ་བསྡད་པ་དང་།
the bandits, though, had posted a lookout who was lying in wait and

ཅོམ་ལྡན་འདས་དེ་བཞིན་གཤེགས་པ་ཡང་དག་པར་རྫོགས་པའི་སངས་རྒྱས་འོད་སྲུང་གིས་བྲམ་ཟེའི་ཁྱེའུ་བླ་མ་ལ།
ensure that i may go forth into the teachings of buddha Śākyamuni, about whom the blessed tathāgata, the arhat, and perfectly awakened buddha kāśyapa has prophesied to the young brahmin uttara,

གངས་ཀྱི་ངོས་དང་ཉེ་བ་ཆུ་ཀླུང་སྐལ་ལྡན་ཤིང་རྟ་པའི་འགྲམ་དྲང་སྲོང་སེར་སྐྱའི་བསྟི་གནས་དང་ཧ་ཅང་མི་རིང་བར་ཤཱཀྱ་རྣམས་ཀྱི་གཞོན་ནུ་བྱུང་སྟེ།
‘at the foot of the snow mountains, on the banks of the river bhāgīrathī, not far from the sage kapila’s hermitage, a youth from the Śākya clan has appeared.

ཀུན་དུ་རྒྱུ་ཉེ་རྒྱལ་དང་པང་ནས་སྐྱེས་གཉིས་ཀྱིས་ཚེ་དང་ལྡན་པ་རྟ་ཐུལ་ཐག་རིང་པོ་ཁོ་ན་ནས་མཐོང་ངོ་། །
the wanderers upatiṣya and kolita saw the venerable aśvajit from a long way off.

འོན་ཀྱང་སེམས་ཅན་འདི་དག་གིས་རྒ་ཤི་བས་བླ་མ་ཡོད་བཞིན་དུ་ངེས་པར་འབྱུང་བ་ཡང་དག་པ་ཇི་ལྟ་བ་བཞིན་རབ་ཏུ་མི་ཤེས་སོ་སྙམ་ནས
and though a higher state exists, beings who age and die know nothing of the perfect remedies that exist.’

དེ་ནས་ཀུན་དུ་རྒྱུ་ཉེ་རྒྱལ་དང་པང་ནས་སྐྱེས་གཉིས་ཚེ་དང་ལྡན་པ་རྟ་ཐུལ་གྱི་རྐང་པ་གཉིས་ལ་མགོ་བོས་ཕྱག་འཚལ་ཏེ་དོང་ནས་བཅོམ་ལྡན་འདས་ག་ལ་བ་དེར་དོང་ ངོ་། །
when upatiṣya and kolita had prostrated at the feet of aśvajit, they left and went to where the blessed one was.

གྲུབ་པ་དང་། བདེ་བ་བླ་ན་མེད་པའི་མྱ་ངན་ལས་འདས་པ་འཐོབ་པ་ལས་ཉམས་ན་ཡང་ལྷ་རྣམས་ཀྱི་ནང་དུ་སྐྱེ་བར་འགྱུར་རོ་
‘even should he fail to attain the unsurpassed accomplishment and bliss of nirvāṇa, he will be reborn among gods.’

གཙུག་ལག་ཁང་རྟ་བབས་མཐོན་པོ་དང་ལྡན་པ། མཐོངས་ཁུང་དང་སྐར་ཁུང་དྲ་བ་ཅན་དང་ལྡན་པ། ལན་ཀན་གྱིས་བརྒྱན་པ། སྙིང་དང་མིག་འཕྲོག་པར་བྱེད་པ། མཐོ་རིས་ཀྱི་ཐེམ་སྐས་སུ་གྱུར་པ། ཁྲི་དང་ཁྲིའུ་དང་ཡོ་བྱད་ཕུན་སུམ་ཚོགས་པ་གཉིས་པ་ཞིག་སྤྲུལ་ཏེ།
where he conjured up a second monastery with a high gate, skylights, and latticed windows. it too was adorned with balustrades, beguiling to the heart and beautiful to the eye, with a staircase to the upper level and perfectly outfitted with beds, seats, and supplies.

གླང་པོ་ཆེ་པའི་ཚོགས་དང་། རྟ་པའི་ཚོགས་དང་། ཤིང་རྟ་པའི་ཚོགས་དང་། དཔུང་བུ་ཆུང་གི་ཚོགས་གོ་བསྐོན་ཏེ། ཡུལ་མ་ག་དྷཱ་རྒྱལ་པོའི་ཁབ་མ་གཏོགས་པ་བཅོམ་ནས་ཕྱིར་ལྡོག་པར་བྱེད་དོ།
—the elephant corps, the cavalry, the charioteer corps, and the infantry—and laid waste to all of magadha, save rājagṛha, before returning.
