you can use the sybase extension to connect to mssql databases from other platforms.

in order to have these functions available, you must compile php with dbx support by using the --enable-dbx option and all options for the databases that will be used, e.g. for mysql you must also specify --with-mysql.

by using the --with-mysql by using the --with-mysql configuration option you enable php to access mysql databases.

if magic_quotes_runtime is enabled, most functions that return data from any sort of external source including databases and text files will have quotes escaped with a backslash.
