early in the fifteenth century (1410), muzaffar shah i, the founder of the gujarat sultanate, defeated the chief of kanthkot. in spite of this defeat, though nominally subject to ahmedabad, kutch remained independent till, in 1472, mahmud begada, going against them with only 300 cavalry, attacked and defeated a force of 4000 archers. the kutchis submitted, and being asked by mahmud what their religion was, said they were men of the desert, without teachers; the king promised to send them teachers, and many of the chiefs who went back with him to junagadh embraced islam.[14]
પંદરમી સદીના પ્રારંભમાં (ઈ.સ. ૧૪૧૦)માં ગુજરાત સલતનતના સ્થાપક મુઝફ્ફર શાહ (પ્રથમ)એ કંથકોટના વડાને હરાવ્યો હતો. આ હાર છતાં અમદાવાદની નીચે હોવા છતાં ઈ.સ,અ ૧૪૭૨ સુધી કચ્છ એક સ્વતંત્ર રજવાડું રહ્યું. તે સ્મયે મહમદ બેગડાએ માત્ર ૩૦૦ ઘોડે સવારોથી હુમલો કર્યો અને ૪૦૦૦ તીરંદાજોને સેનાને હરાવી. કચ્છે સેનાએ હાર સ્વીકારી. જ્યારે મહમદે તેમનો ધર્મ પૂછ્યો, ત્યારે તેમણે કહ્યું કે અમે રણના માણસો છીએ અમારી પાસે કોઈ ગુરુ નથી. આ સાંભળી મહમદે તેમને ત્યાં ગુરુઓ મોકલવાનું વચન આપ્યું. જે વડાઓ તેની સાથે જુનાગઢ ગયા તેમણે ઈસ્લામ ધર્મ અંગીકાર કર્યો.[14]
