en daarin is tot jou de waarheid gekomen, en een onderricht en een lering voor de gelovigen.

and let them not turn thee aside from the signs of allah after they have been sent down unto thee.
en laat jou niet weghouden van de verzen van allah nadat zij tot jou neergezonden zijn en roep jouw heer aan.

o my father! lo! there hath come unto me of knowledge that which came not unto thee.
o mijn vader, er is waarlijk kennis tot mij gekomen, die niet tot u kwam.

and hath the story of the litigants come unto thee? how they climbed the wall into the royal chamber;
is het bericht over het getwist tot jou gekomen toen zij over de muren van het paleisgebouw klommen?

and none can change the words of allah; and assuredly there hath come unto thee some tidings of the sent ones.
en er is niemand die de woorden van allah kan veranderen en voorzeker, er zijn al berichten over de boodschappers tot jou gekomen.

assuredly hath the truth come unto thee from thy lord, so be not then of the doubters.
thans is de waarheid van uwen heer tot u gekomen; wees dus niet een van hen die twijfelen.

so judge between them by that which allah hath revealed, and follow not their desires away from the truth which hath come unto thee.
oordeel dan tussen hen volgens wat god heeft neergezonden en volg hun neigingen niet in afwijking van wat van de waarheid tot jou gekomen is.

and if thou shouldst follow their desires after the knowledge which hath come unto thee, then surely wert thou of the evil-doers.
als jij nu hun neigingen volgt, nadat de kennis tot jou is gekomen, dan behoor je zeker tot de onrechtplegers.

and if thou shouldst follow their desires after the knowledge which hath come unto thee, then wouldst thou have from allah no protecting guardian nor helper.
als jij hun neigingen volgt na de kennis die er tot jou gekomen is, dan heb je tegen god geen beschermer en geen bondgenoot.

when the hypocrites come unto thee, they say: we bear witness that thou art indeed the apostle of allah.
als de huichelaars tot u komen, zeggen zij: wij leggen de getuigenis af, dat gij werkelijk gods gezant zijt.

and of a surety wert thou to follow their desires after that which hath come unto thee of the knowledge, there will be for thee against allah neither protector nor helper.
als jij hun neigingen volgt na de kennis die er tot jou gekomen is, dan heb je tegen god geen beschermer en geen bondgenoot.

and shouldst thou follow their desires, after that which hath come unto thee of the knowledge, then verily thou wilt become one of the wrong-doers.
als jij nu hun neigingen volgt, nadat de kennis tot jou is gekomen, dan behoor je zeker tot de onrechtplegers.

and when they come unto thee they greet thee with a greeting wherewith allah greeteth thee not, and say within themselves: why should allah punish us for what we say?
en als jij bij hen komt groeten zij jou zoals god jou niet groet en zij zeggen bij zichzelf: "als god ons maar niet bestraft voor wat wij zeggen."

and if, when they had wronged themselves, they had but come unto thee and asked forgiveness of allah, and asked forgiveness of the messenger, they would have found allah forgiving, merciful.
en als zij, omdat zij zichzelf onrecht aangedaan hebben, tot jou zouden komen en dan god om vergeving zouden vragen en als de gezant voor hen om vergeving zou vragen dan zouden zij merken dat god een genadegever is en barmhartig.

and if they, when they had wronged their souls, had come unto thee and begged forgiveness of allah, and the apostle had begged forgiveness for them they would surely have found allah relentant, merciful.
en als zij, omdat zij zichzelf onrecht aangedaan hebben, tot jou zouden komen en dan god om vergeving zouden vragen en als de gezant voor hen om vergeving zou vragen dan zouden zij merken dat god een genadegever is en barmhartig.

when the hypocrites come unto thee (o muhammad), they say: we bear witness that thou art indeed allah's messenger.
als de huichelaars tot u komen, zeggen zij: wij leggen de getuigenis af, dat gij werkelijk gods gezant zijt.

how can you lead others to me and expect them to stay saved, when you do not even know me? i say unto thee again, "let my people go!"
hoe kunnen jullie anderen tot mij leiden en verwachten dat zij gered blijven, wanneer jullie mij niet eens kennen? ik zeg opnieuw tegen jullie, “laat mijn mensen gaan!”
