so they disbelieved and turned away (from the truth), and allah was not in need (of them).

hayo ni kwa sababu ya kuwa waliamini, kisha wakakufuru; kwa hivyo umepigwa muhuri juu ya nyoyo zao.
that is because they believed and then disbelieved, so their hearts were sealed.

wanaapa kwa mwenyezi mungu kuwa hawakusema; nao wamekwisha sema neno la ukafiri, na wakakufuru baada ya kusilimu kwao.
they (the hypocrites) swear by the name of god (to make others believe in what they are saying). they have spoken the testimony of disbelief and have then turned back to disbelief.

hayo ni kwa sababu ya kuwa waliamini, kisha wakakufuru; kwa hivyo umepigwa muhuri juu ya nyoyo zao. kwa hivyo hawafahamu lolote.
all that is because they first believed and then disbelieved, and therefore a seal was set on their hearts; as a result they understand nothing.

hakika walio amini, kisha wakakufuru, kisha wakaamini, kisha wakazidi ukafiri, mwenyezi mungu hakuwa wa kuwaghufiria wala wa kuwaongoa njia.
allah will neither forgive nor show the right way to those who believed, and then disbelieved, then believed, and again disbelieved, and thenceforth became ever more intense in their disbelief.

wanaapa kwa mwenyezi mungu kuwa hawakusema; nao wamekwisha sema neno la ukafiri, na wakakufuru baada ya kusilimu kwao. na wakajihimu kufanya ambayo hawakuweza kuyafikia.
and they swear by allah that they did not say it; whereas indeed they had certainly uttered the words of disbelief, and after having entered islam turned disbelievers and had wished for what they did not get; and what annoyed them except that allah, and his noble messenger, made them prosperous with his grace?

hayo ni kwa kuwa walikuwa wakiwajia mitume wao kwa hoja zilizo wazi, nao wakasema: hivyo binaadamu ndio atuongoe? basi wakakufuru, na wakageuka upande.
that is because their messengers used to come to them with clear evidences, but they said, "shall human beings guide us?" and disbelieved and turned away.
