english-romanian emel (right) is married to ufuk (left) and is sitting next to her sister-in-law deniz (center). three years ago a group of ladies met emel at a local "mom and pop" shop. she was on her way to work and had little time to talk. we gave her a good news packet containing a bible, dvds, brochures, christian books, and music. years later, i heard she asked about us and wished to see us if we ever returned to her neighborhood. well the opportunity came as well as some of the ladies from the us. after emel got off work, we went to their home for an evening barbecue. we learned emel had read much of the bible and the family was very positive toward everything we explained about the legal necessity for jesus' sacrificial death. everyone in this picture has accepted jesus' atoning sacrifice as god's only means to be reconciled with him (god). ufuk had severe back problems, so we prayed for him. while praying he said "my back feels hot" and he seemed loosened up and has remained in good health until now. emel asked that we pray for her health as well. the 7 ladies surrounded her and laid hands on her as they prayed. after an incredible evening together praying, fellowshipping, testifying, and praising the lord, we departed. a week or so later a different group came and visited this "newly born again" family. as we talked, emel asked me about god's spirit being like the wind. i asked if she had read the gospel of john. i then read verses in john 3 about the spirit and the wind wherein the effects are seen but not the spirit's movement. emel then read about nicodemus wherein she stood up, cried, and ran to ufuk saying read this "i've been born again!" during the conversation, i asked "why she had the question about god's spirit and the wind." emel explained that weeks before when the ladies prayed for her that a wind came over her. she was surprised because she was surrounded by women and wondered how this feeling of the wind could happen or how the wind could circulate around and in between these ladies. she even wondered why the ladies never mentioned the wind blowing. upon reading the new testament, we all saw how god works in ways that are beyond our imaginations and reasonings. he is a great god of comfort, blessing, conviction, healing, redemption, instruction, and surprises! his ways are so much higher than our ways! may we depend on him as these newborns do, always. pray for deniz as well. a fatal truck accident happened 5 feet in front of her where she saw her friend crushed to death. because of the trauma, she went to a psychiatrist who prescribed some medicines. we don't know if it is the medicines or the accident but she has depression, fear, and other personal problems and seems to be in a stupor.
