then said the jews unto him, thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen abraham?

devenitque ephesum et illos ibi reliquit ipse vero ingressus synagogam disputavit cum iudaei
and he came to ephesus, and left them there: but he himself entered into the synagogue, and reasoned with the jews.

tribulatio et angustia in omnem animam hominis operantis malum iudaei primum et graec

and this continued by the space of two years; so that all they which dwelt in asia heard the word of the lord jesus, both jews and greeks.

haec dixerunt parentes eius quia timebant iudaeos iam enim conspiraverant iudaei ut si quis eum confiteretur christum extra synagogam fiere
these words spake his parents, because they feared the jews: for the jews had agreed already, that if any man did confess that he was christ, he should be put out of the synagogue.

dixerunt ergo iudaei ad se ipsos quo hic iturus est quia non inveniemus eum numquid in dispersionem gentium iturus est et docturus gente
then said the jews among themselves, whither will he go, that we shall not find him? will he go unto the dispersed among the gentiles, and teach the gentiles?

incipiente autem paulo aperire os dixit gallio ad iudaeos si quidem esset iniquum aliquid aut facinus pessimum o viri iudaei recte vos sustinere
and when paul was now about to open his mouth, gallio said unto the jews, if it were a matter of wrong or wicked lewdness, o ye jews, reason would that i should bear with you:

si enim nunc silueris per aliam occasionem liberabuntur iudaei et tu et domus patris tui peribitis et quis novit utrum idcirco ad regnum veneris ut in tali tempore parareri
for if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the jews from another place; but thou and thy father's house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?
