and if ye know not their fathers then they are your brethren in religion and your friends.

but if ye know not their father's (names, call them) your brothers in faith, or your maulas.

waiteni kwa baba zao, maana huo ndio uadilifu zaidi mbele ya mwenyezi mungu. na ikiwa hamwajui baba zao, basi ni ndugu zenu katika dini, na rafiki zenu.
assert their relationship to their fathers; this is more equitable with allah; but if you do not know their fathers, then they are your brethren in faith and your friends; and there is no blame on you concerning that in which you made a mistake, but (concerning) that which your hearts do purposely (blame may rest on you), and allah is forgiving, merciful.

basi waandalieni nguvu kama muwezavyo, na kwa farasi walio fungwa tayari-tayari, ili kuwatishia maadui wa mwenyezi mungu na maadui zenu, na wengineo ambao hamwajui, lakini mwenyezi mungu anawajua.
against them make ready your strength to the utmost of your power, including steeds of war, to strike terror into (the hearts of) the enemies, of allah and your enemies, and others besides, whom ye may not know, but whom allah doth know.

basi waandalieni nguvu kama muwezavyo, na kwa farasi walio fungwa tayari-tayari, ili kuwatishia maadui wa mwenyezi mungu na maadui zenu, na wengineo ambao hamwajui, lakini mwenyezi mungu anawajua. na mkitoa chochote katika njia ya mwenyezi mungu mtarudishiwa, na wala nyinyi hamtadhulumiwa.
and keep ready for them the maximum of forces you can and the maximum number of horses you can keep tethered, in order to instil awe in the hearts of those who are the enemies of allah and who are your enemies, and in the hearts of some others whom you do not know; allah knows them; and whatever you spend in allah's cause will be repaid to you in full and you will never be in a loss.
