כי מקול יהוה יחת אשור בשבט יכה׃
for through the voice of the lord shall the assyrian be beaten down, which smote with a rod.

הוי אשור שבט אפי ומטה הוא בידם זעמי׃
o assyrian, the rod of mine anger, and the staff in their hand is mine indignation.

אל הבית הובילה שדרת עצי אשור ארוכה.
a mile-long avenue of beech trees leads to the house.

גם אשור נלוה עמם היו זרוע לבני לוט סלה׃

בעת ההיא שלח המלך אחז על מלכי אשור לעזר לו׃
at that time did king ahaz send unto the kings of assyria to help him.

אמנם יהוה החריבו מלכי אשור את הגוים ואת ארצם׃
of a truth, lord, the kings of assyria have destroyed the nations and their lands,

כי המה עלו אשור פרא בודד לו אפרים התנו אהבים׃
for they are gone up to assyria, a wild ass alone by himself: ephraim hath hired lovers.

ומכף מלך אשור אצילך ואת העיר הזאת וגנותי על העיר הזאת׃
and i will deliver thee and this city out of the hand of the king of assyria: and i will defend this city.

ושם הנהר השלישי חדקל הוא ההלך קדמת אשור והנהר הרביעי הוא פרת׃
and the name of the third river is hiddekel: that is it which goeth toward the east of assyria. and the fourth river is euphrates.

יחרדו כצפור ממצרים וכיונה מארץ אשור והושבתים על בתיהם נאם יהוה׃
they shall tremble as a bird out of egypt, and as a dove out of the land of assyria: and i will place them in their houses, saith the lord.

ואל יבטח אתכם חזקיהו אל יהוה לאמר הצל יצילנו יהוה לא תנתן העיר הזאת ביד מלך אשור׃
neither let hezekiah make you trust in the lord, saying, the lord will surely deliver us: this city shall not be delivered into the hand of the king of assyria.

מסופר כי באותו לילה יצא מלאך ה' והרג 185,000 חיילים ממחנה אשור.
records that during the siege the angel of the lord killed 185,000 assyrian soldiers in a single night.

וישלח ישעיהו בן אמוץ אל חזקיהו לאמר כה אמר יהוה אלהי ישראל אשר התפללת אלי אל סנחריב מלך אשור׃
then isaiah the son of amoz sent unto hezekiah, saying, thus saith the lord god of israel, whereas thou hast prayed to me against sennacherib king of assyria:

והספתי על ימיך חמש עשרה שנה ומכף מלך אשור אצילך ואת העיר הזאת וגנותי על העיר הזאת למעני ולמען דוד עבדי׃
and i will add unto thy days fifteen years; and i will deliver thee and this city out of the hand of the king of assyria; and i will defend this city for mine own sake, and for my servant david's sake.
