ولو تأملنا في الوضع الحالي لصناعة النفط في العراق، نجد أن قدرة قطاع النفط العراقي على إعادة تأهيله ذاتيا هي أفضل من قدرة القطاعات الأخرى، فالأضرار التي لحقت به من جراء العمليات العسكرية وما تلاها من سلب ونهب خفيفة نسبيا، ولم يتعد عدد الآبار المنتجة المحترقة العشرة من بين عدة آلاف من الآبار، والمعلومات حولها سلمت من أحداث السلب التي تعرضت لها شركتا نفط الشمال ونفط الجنوب، كما أن وزارة النفط في بغداد لم تطالها الحرائق التي كانت مصير غيرها من الوزارات، وكذلك بالنسبة لمنشآت الإنتاج وأنابيب النقل ومصانع التكرير الثلاثة الرئيسية: بيجي في الشمال والدورة في الوسط والبصرة في الجنوب.
