and we did certainly create man out of clay from an altered black mud.

and indeed, we created man from sounding clay of altered black smooth mud.

he said, “shall i bow down before someone you created from mud?”
akasema: je! nimsujudie uliye muumba kwa udongo?

and certainly we created man of clay that gives forth sound, of black mud fashioned in shape.

your lord said to the angels, "i am about to bring into being a man wrought from mud.
na mola wako mlezi alipo waambia malaika: hakika mimi nitamuumba mtu kwa udongo unao toa sauti, unao tokana na matope yaliyo tiwa sura.

and when thy lord said to the angels, 'see, i am creating a mortal of a clay of mud moulded.
na mola wako mlezi alipo waambia malaika: hakika mimi nitamuumba mtu kwa udongo unao toa sauti, unao tokana na matope yaliyo tiwa sura.

he replied: 'i will not prostrate to a mortal you have created of clay, from molded mud'
akasema: haiwi mimi nimsujudie mtu uliye muumba kwa udongo unao toa sauti, unao tokana na matope yenye sura.

with no water they tried licking rocks to quench their thirst, and also tried sucking up the moisture from the mud, by putting a piece of clothing between their mouth and the moist mud.
