in the preface of his question: man of destiny, carlos quirino wrote: "this biography does not pretend to be exhaustive, conclusion,or final. in writing about any living person, person, much that could be said cannot be printed; there are numerous facts surrounding recent and current events which,when disclosed at some future date, may modify judgement of the man". in a letter to president quezon, he added biographies and articles which have been written about you in the past fall into two definite classes: those that deify, and those that vilify. this biography of mine does neither; it presents the greatest political leader in the entire history of the philippines as i see him; it presents his achievements as well as his mistakes. it is my intention to strike a happy balance between two extremes...my only desire is to write for history and posterity". that was 1935 when quezon was about to assume office as the first president of the philippines commonwealth. the author looked forward with great expectation to quezon's six-year term of office.
