il fatto che il rito greco-ortodosso, le chiese ed i " papadev " (preti) greci sopravvivessero in buona parte del salento fin dopo il concilio di trento (1563), convivendo col rito romano-cattolico, fu originariamente dovuto al disegno politico dei normanni, teso ad impedire l'eventualità di una riconquista bizantina.
