mandrillo e drillo sono stati tradizionalmente uniti ai babbuini papio sp. ed al gelada theropithecus gelada (rüppell, 1835) nell’informale raggruppamento detto ‘scimmie cinocefale’ per l’elevato sviluppo in lunghezza del cranio, in particolare dei maschi adulti, che li rendono simili a quello di un cane.
