we often hear that age is just a number, but for what it’s worth, we know that’s not entirely true. we see our parents getting older, and some of us might notice it in their behavior. but trust me, from what i have observed, aging is not the same for everybody. aging may look like sagging skin, wrinkles, trembling hands, a tired body, and a weaker posture. however, in my understanding, aging is a mental phenomenon before it is visible in one’s body, which is why it differs for everyone. for some, old age may feel like a soft duvet, offering comfort as they reflect on their middle age or teenage years. they may have experienced prosperity, health, and the fulfillment of their dreams. they are comforted by the fact that they have everything they once wished for — not that a person can ever be fully satisfied, but they find peace in the security of their and their family’s future. for others, old age may be traumatic and exhausting. even the most comfortable lifestyle doesn’t bring comfort because they have spent their lives working tirelessly, wearing themselves out, to the point where their bodies and minds no longer respond well. these individuals may have aged faster and more intensely. then there’s the third scenario, which is perhaps the most exhausting. it involves aging faster simply by dwelling on whether all the hard work they’ve done throughout their lives was enough. they’re constantly worried about their family’s future, their own well-being, and even their present circumstances, due to the insecurities they carry. the concept of “old age” is different for everyone. you start aging when your mind becomes constrained, when there’s no room left for learning or understanding, when you become rigid in your perspective — whether good or bad — and start burdening yourself with the sorrows of life. this mental strain makes you tired, weakens your body, and accelerates aging. and, of course, a lack of exercise and self-care contributes as well. so, while it’s important to secure your old age, it’s even more important to protect and cherish it. your approach to aging may vary, but the comfort you seek is something we can all relate to.
