for a long time i have looked upon it as a mystifying sophistry introduced by a wily priestcraft to conceal the naked immortality of their system of philosophy ; but now when i am forced to study predestination in all its bearings , i discover that the idea though expressed in the bold dogmatical terminology peculiar to the term , is pregnant with important truths and is in fact , if i mistake not , a cool and impartial statement of psychological facts .
लम्बे अर्से तक मैं इसे रहस्यमय वाक्छल मात्र समझता रहा , जिसका आविष्कार किसी धूर्त पुरोहित वर्ग ने अपनी दर्शन - पद्धति की घोर अनैतिकता का छिपाने के लिये किया था , परन्ते जब मुझे नियतिवाद का उसके सम्पूर्ण आयामों के साथ अध्ययन करना पड़ा , तो मैनें यह अनुभव किया कि यद्यपि इस सिद्धांत का रूढ़ पारिभाषिक शब्दावली में निष्पाद किया गया है , फिर भी उसमें महत्वपूर्ण सत्य निहित है , यदि वास्तव में मैं गलती नहीं करता , तो उसमें मनोवैज्ञानिक तथ्यों का सर्वथा शांत , संयत शब्दावली में निष्पक्ष दृष्टि से निष्पादन किया गया है ।
