the following story took place during the last semester in which rav shach gave open classes at the ponevezh yeshiva.
l’histoire se déroule dans la dernière période où le rav chakh donnait des cours collectifs à la yéchiva de poniewitz.

a jew from haifa recounted that when he studied at the ponevezh yeshiva during his youth, he once went to see rav shach zatzal for some advice.
un habitant de ‘haïfa a raconté avoir étudié dans sa jeunesse à la yéchiva de poniewitz et s’être une fois rendu chez le rav chakh pour lui demander un conseil précis.

rav shach explained that this approach had two objectives: to not disturb others, and to include this effort in his labor for torah.
le rav shakh explique que ce comportement avait une double motivation : ne pas déranger son prochain et inclure cet effort dans son labeur pour la torah.

nobody knew why he wanted to help that particular student, until finally they discovered that this boy was the only descendant of a woman who had helped rav shach during his youth in the diaspora.

the doctor stood at the side of the beit hamidrash and observed with astonishment how rav shach, who was old and frail, treated a difficult issue in the sugia being studied at the time.

when he rushed into the kitchen to see what was happening, he saw rav shach standing next to the gas stove with a gemara in one hand and a spoon in the other, stirring an empty pot from which smoke was billowing!
il s’y est précipité et s’est soudain trouvé face au rav, debout près des réchauds, tenant une guemara d’une main tandis que l’autre était occupée à tourner une cuillère dans un ustensile vide sur le point de prendre feu !
