27. mr. avramenko (russian federation) said that, although his delegation was satisfied with the contribution that unitar had made to enhancing the qualifications of staff and training and research work within the united nations over the past 20 years, it was of the view that the institute needed to further diversify and update its training programmes, methods and research studies to respond to growing and ever changing demands. for example, it could focus on areas such as the fight against terrorism and any forms of extremism, issues pertaining to the new round of multilateral talks with the world trade organization and implementation of the decisions of the world summit on sustainable development and the international conference on financing for development, including providing matrix methodologies for relevant activities at the national and regional levels.
